It’s odd that someone who is such an authoritative figure in your life traditionally can be seen as your greatest confidant and friend. Someone to run to when the world gets too cold or your heartstrings are torn. When close friends seem to turn on you, she’s there to offer some much needed advice. From the time she held you in the hospital room, she loved every part of you, even the not so pretty ones. Mothers and daughters have such a unique bond where there is misinterpretation and frustration, but ultimately, mercy and understanding. At times, she can feel like our greatest enemy, but she is actually our dearest friend.
1. She gets it.
2. She listens.
On countless occasions, you can put aside time in a given day to call her and just talk. About relationships, classes, work and all the little seemingly meaningless things that happen throughout the day because you know that she will just listen. Sometimes it’s important to have someone listen without trying to fix things.3. She cares.
No matter what you face in life, your mom will always be your cheerleader. She cares. About everything. She cares about how the face wash you use is affecting your skin. She cares when you’re feeling self conscious and needing a confidence boost. She is always there to make sure you know how loved and beautiful you are.4. She tells it like it is.
Too much make up? Enter mom. Clothes too tight? Enter mom. She will let you know when your actions will cause you embarrassment in the days to come. Moms have this weird ability to see the future. Maybe that’s a stretch, but sometimes it seems that they have that power. She knows how that one friend is going to end up stabbing you in the back. She knows that this guy really isn’t deserving of you. She sees the potential that you have and she’s not afraid to tell you that you deserve to do better.
