As as a high school student, I used to wish that summer would never end. Every year I dreaded the start of school. But going into my sophomore year of college, I have felt the exact opposite. Although it’s nice being home with my friends and family, I miss being at school. Coming into the last week of summer, the days have never felt so long. Opportunities for the next school year feel endless, and I can’t wait to start embarking on them.
1. New Classes
Being in college, you actually get to study what you want/need. You take classes that really interest you and will help you move closer to your career. School seems so much more appealing when you take classes that pertain to yourself and your future. It’s an amazing feeling to be excited about the classes that you’re about to take.
2. Becoming More Involved
As a freshman it’s hard to get involved because you already had plenty of new things thrown at you. It was your first time on your own. You were figuring out how to work this whole “college thing.” Now that you have it under control, you can start becoming more involved; joining organizations involving your major, becoming involved in religious groups, putting more time into your greek life, etc. In college, you have numerous opportunities. There’s endless things to be a part of, and now you actually have the chance to figure what exactly it is you want to be involved in.
3. Moving into a New Place
Most freshmen have to stay in stuffy dorm rooms with dining meal plans. I’m ecstatic thinking about having a kitchen and a place to watch T.V. Your dorm room became the place you did absolutely everything in. In an apartment I’ll finally get to make my own food, sit on a couch to relax, and study at the table. Plus I’ll get to do all of that while living with my sorority friends.
4. Football Games
Coming from a SEC school, game days were the best days. Whether our team won or lost, it turned out fun either way. Hearing the roar from the crowd as the canon went off after a scored touchdown, or looking up to the sea of black and gold, were feelings unlike any other, and a feeling that has been anticipated since the very lastgame.
5. Living on Your Own
When you’re a freshman, you’re thrilled, but also scared of the idea of living on your own. But I think it’s hardest going from being on your own, to back to under your parent’s roof. We all love being with our family, but you start to miss the feeling of complete freedom. You do (mostly) whatever you want without questions asked or worrying about your parents being anxious about what you’re doing and where you are 24/7. You have full independence, and you just have to hope that it all turns out okay.
