Everyone wants to be a parent of some sort. When people hear that someone is a mother or father they often think that that person is talking about having a baby, but in some cases people are talking about buying a puppy, or a fur baby, which is just as big a responsibility as having a child. If there is some confusion as to which to lean more towards, there are things that you should consider when getting a dog.
1. There are too many people in the world.
There are over eight billion people in the world. That number, with increasingly limited resources, basically has our fate almost sealed. Focusing on the United States, water, which falls from the sky, is limited in California and undrinkable in places such as Flint, Mich. Oil is a scarce resource, and I don't know how babies would use that, but it seems like a good reason to not have any more.
2. Babies are a lot of work.
You have to feed them, change them, wash them and dress them. You have to do some of the same for a dog, but a dog doesn't produce gut-wrenching cries because it’s hungry. Babies can't do anything for themselves. Trying to find a way to entertain a baby is also difficult as well because then you know you're going to have to watch that annoying movie or specific episode of a television show over 20 times a day because it looks like you have to like it too. Then the baby grows and you have to teach it to walk and talk and use the bathroom and it's just too much for another human. All you can do is pray for yourself by the time they're age two to five.
3. Puppies are cute.
Puppies are the greatest thing to ever be on Planet Earth. Dogs in general are the best animal because they're like humans, minus the need to take over foreign countries for resources. A baby might grow up to do that. Puppies are cute fresh out of the dog womb and are too pure and innocent. Just look at the picture above, those puppies are just as innocent as people think babies are, if not more.
4. Babies are evil.
Babies have too much power. They cry and you jump right up to go help them (which you shouldn't do all the time because you're teaching them learned helplessness). Besides that, most babies tend to laugh and smile when they see someone in physical pain. You know who else enjoyed watching people in pain? Hitler. Then there's the whole wanting to write on everything. Why, when babies see a blank wall and they have a crayon in their hand, do they want to go and write on it? We’re very unsure. It's probably to draw out their plans for world domination or something.
5. Dogs need to be adopted.
There are more homeless animals than there are homeless people. Where people are able to fend for themselves in some ways, animals cannot. Over 2.7 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year because they are not adopted. If one of your reasons for not wanting to own a dog is because you don't want to spend your time training them, then this is a great option, because most if not all of the dogs in shelters are already trained.
Dogs were given to us for some unknown reason because we are not worthy of their gracious presence. They're beautiful creatures deserving of loving homes with people that care about them. Even if you still want a child, adopt a dog because that will help prepare you for motherhood or fatherhood, and on top of that, you get a new best friend. If not a dog, at least a cat because they need to be adopted too.
