5 Reasons For Conservatives To Vote For Trump As President
La Times

You know his name and his slogan. You know his legendary reputation as a businessman and TV personality. You know that he won in landslides and beat a rigged primary system.

Chances are that you have heard a lot about Donald Trump, the recently crowned Republican nominee for President. You can no longer turn on the news without hearing his name these days. It is no surprise; after all, his grassroots movement did destroy the conservative establishment and so called "intellectuals" that run our corrupt country. Now he is poised to unseat Obama and crooked Hillary, who stole the Democratic nomination from (more) honorable liberals like Bernie Sanders.

But this article is not about what you already know.

A lot of Republicans are still unsure whether or not to jump on the Trump train. He has been accused of bigotry, ill-preparedness, and outright stupidity. Insults like "fascist" get thrown at Trump a lot these days. But the one that frustrates me the most is "liberal."

The liberal media went crazy when Ted Cruz, the slimy politician who got annihilated in the primaries, refused to endorse Trump at the convention. Cruz, as well as a lot of other dishonorable conservatives, have claimed that Trump is a dangerous demagogue who doesn't hold conservative values in his heart.

They point to videos, like the one in which Trump tells Wolf Blitzer that he is a Democrat and the economy does better under Democrats. Or the time when Trump wrote that Hillary Clinton was a "smart, tough, and very nice person." Sometimes they mention the time he claimed Clinton would "make a good president or a good vice president." It is also true that on his blog, Trump gave President Obama a B+ rating for his first term, and wrote that, "he’s lived up to his challenges in a big way." He donated $100k to the Clinton Foundation and in 2006, he gave $5k to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and $20k to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Let me tell you though, Trump is as conservative as they come. His policy positions prove it, even when his experience is a little spotty. Here are 5 of his conservative positions that demonstrate why I will definitely be voting for him in November.

1. The Donald is a big fan of Planned Parenthood (and abortion).

Planned Parenthood is the organization which performs abortions for women, among a number of other health services. Trump recently claimed that they have done “very good work for millions of women. I've had thousands of letters from women that have been helped." This sort of position is hardly surprising given how pro-choice the Republicans have been for decades. In fact, it has essentially become a right of passage for Republican candidates to pledge their support for Planned Parenthood. Naturally, Trump called for Planned Parenthood's funding to remain the same as in the status quo. Admiring his conservatism on the issue, a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood responded by saying that, "Donald Trump seems to have realized that banning all abortions, shutting down the government, and defunding Planned Parenthood are extreme positions that are way too far outside the mainstream for even him to take.”

The Donald has always been rather pro-choice, growing up and living in the conservative bastion that is New York City. During the above interview on NBC, Trump claimed that he supported abortions in the third trimester.

2. He wants transgender people to use whichever bathrooms they feel more comfortable in.

The Republican party has always been a great friend to the LGBTQ+ community, so it was no surprise when Trump came out and said that people should use the bathrooms they want to. He criticized liberal North Carolina for passing a law which has widely been condemned by Republicans as discriminatory. In response, the staunchly liberal Ted Cruz tweeted, "Common sense: grown men shouldn't be in bathrooms w/ little girls." More evidence that Ted Cruz is really a shill for the Democrats.

3. Trump agrees with Sanders that the US should have universal healthcare.

Donald Trump is in favor of socialist healthcare. In an interview on CBS, he claimed that he would replace Obamacare with the sort of universal coverage that Sanders has long campaigned for. In addition, during a debate on Fox News, Trump went further, explaining in no uncertain terms how well single payer healthcare has worked in Canada and the UK. On his CBS interview, Trump promised the American people that "They can [keep] their doctors. They can [keep] their plans..." which definitely will not sound familiar to conservatives tired of Obamacare.

4. He will keep the Iran Deal.

Trump is such a great negotiator; he even wrote a book about how good he is at making deals. So, when he tells you that the Iran Deal does not need to be torn up, you know that he must be correct. Many Republicans share his perspective that the document is an imperfect, but conceptually good plan for dealing with the unstable nuclear power. Trump has promised to "police" and "look over" the deal, rather than throw it out. While it is true that he claimed that he could negotiate a deal 100 times better, that is logical reasoning because he is obviously 100 times better at negotiating than anyone else. It is worth noting, however, that when asked by Wolf Blitzer (back in 2007) who would be the best person for the job, he responded that it had to be Hillary.

5. Trump does not want to fight same-sex marriage.

Donald Trump is a true social conservative when it comes to marriage equality. He loves traditional marriage so much he has had three of them. Most conservatives have long been proponents of same-sex marriage and many have no intention of fighting the Supreme Court decisions in United States vs. Windsor (which struck down DOMA) or Obergefell vs. Hodges (which struck down bans on gay marriage). Trump has also claimed that Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who refused to give marriage licenses to gay couples, was wrong to act the way she did. Speaking on the issue, he claimed, "this was not the right job for her" and that America was a nation of laws. Classic Republican position.

For the sake of brevity, I skipped over some golden examples of conservatism, like the time Trump said:

"I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today's internet technology we should be able to tell within 72 hours if a potential gun owner has a record."

Crooked Hillary is coming for our same-sex marriage licenses and abortion rights. Only a real conservative like Donald J. Trump can stop her. Please, do not stay silent in November. Vote your conscience.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
