We all know the saying that dogs are man’s best friend, but could dogs possibly be better than man? Yes, yes, they can. Here’s why:
1. Dogs are happy 99% of the time.
Whereas humans go through wide ranges of emotions everyday, dogs are mainly happy, and because of this, they spread happiness to everyone they come into contact with. Because dogs have such short memories, they will not hold grudges or remain depressed for long periods of time. They are quick to forget whatever behooves them and return to their default, tail-wagging, goofy states. They get excited over much more than humans, showing passion about almost everything, and more often than not, are happy about whatever life throws at them. Humans become angry, upset, and sad often, but dogs are almost always joyous. Dogs are better.
2. Dogs don’t mask their regret.
Often, when humans mess up, we like to pretend nothing happened and move on, or at least get by without an apology. Dogs do not have the capacity to do this. As soon as we catch them sneaking a treat out of the pantry or tearing the toilet paper in the bathroom into tiny pieces, they show instant remorse. Heads down, tail between the legs in shame, dogs are transparent about their regret and ready to accept punishment. We as humans are rarely so quick to apologize for our mistakes. Dogs are better.
3. Dogs are fearless in the face of danger.
When humans are faced with potentially dangerous situations, such as, say, someone breaking into our houses in the middle of the night, we often freeze up, unsure of how to respond or scared something might happen to us. Dogs aren’t like this; they’re fearless. At the first sign someone is about to come into the house, whether it be a threatening criminal or a friendly neighbor, dogs are on attack. A low growl sounds from their lungs, their hackles raise, and they get into that stooped position, ready to pounce. They aren’t concerned about what may happen to them in the process of protection; their only focus is how to protect. Even telling them that everything okay, Bob from down the street is just coming to bring the mail, is not enough to make them back down. Dogs will go to all lengths to protect their human friends, even if only the slightest indication that something bad may happen is present. Humans rarely have the boldness that dogs show every time something potentially threatening arises. Dogs are better.
4. Dog’s don’t judge us.
Okay, we as humans enjoy judging others, whether we like to admit it or not. We love it so much that it’s an automatic reaction to seeing any new situation or person, something that can only be stopped with practice and dedication. We instantly judge people on their appearances, possessions, and actions, without getting to know them to see whether our assessments of their personalities are true. Dogs do the complete opposite. They love everyone upon first introduction (unless, of course, that person could possibly harm their family), and never treat us differently because of what we say or do. They do not care about appearance, whether we look our best or laze around the house in pajamas all day. Dogs could not care less. We could tell them the most interesting, surprising secret about anyone and everyone and they would take it with a grain of salt, mainly because they don’t understand human languages. Whereas humans judge automatically, dogs don’t even know how to judge. Dogs are better.
5. Dogs love unconditionally.
Although love is the center of most human relationships, we often have a hard time loving despite the flaws we see in others. Dogs don’t care about our flaws. They don’t care that sometimes we skip their walks, or forget to give them biscuits, or go away on week-long vacations, dropping them off at scary-looking pet kennels. As soon as we walk through the door, sun-burnt and exhausted, to pick them up, they bombard us with kisses and tail-wags. There is no condemnation from dogs. They love us even though we fail them over and over. The same can’t always be said about people. Dogs are better.
Overall, dogs are just better than humans. They love better, accept better, protect better, apologize better, and experience life better. If we as humans begin to model our lifestyles on the way dogs act and feel, our society could become much more tender, compassionate, and a lot more excited. Dogs are the examples we should base our lives off of, and if we do, we could become better people. Go dogs.
