I am pro-selfie.
I believe for most of the world selfies don't represent egotism or narcissism. When you snap a pic of you it's a declaration of self-love and positive vibes. And here's why.
1. Selfies are a way to focus on you.
There are so many times in life we give, give, and give again and don't take care of ourselves. Every girl deserves an evening with bright lipstick and a bold wardrobe choice. Not a person that loves the out and about scene? Drop in a bath bomb and listen to some Beyonce in the tub with a glass of Malbec. Snap a pic of you post-bath self with your hair wrapped in a towel and recharged smile. That selfie is proof you took the time to take care of you.
2. Selfies celebrate milestones.
Life milestones can be graduations, promotions, new relationships, making it to the end of a long work week...whatever has meaning to you. I still hold on to the selfie I snapped the day I graduated from undergrad. There's so much meaning when I stare down at that pic and see the watery eyes and big smile. These are moments that yes, friends and family supported you along the way, but hell YES your own hustle and heart pushed you to the finish line.
3. Selfies give meaning to physical transformations.
You slaaaaaay girl and show off that big change! New hair cut? Selfie. New dress for wedding season? Selfie! Reach that weight loss goal? SELFIE! There ain't no shame in sharing moments you do you. Because deep down the changes are so much more than a pretty picture. That selfie is your rediscovered self-esteem and confidence and quite possibly the first step in a new stage in your life.
4. Selfies are a life check-up.
I'm about to get super deep. I believe a selfie will tell you if you love or hate what's going on in your life right now---- if it's the latter, that pic could motivate you to make a must needed radical change. Look down at your phone and see a fake smirk? You need to dig deep and make some changes. See a big smile? You're doing something right for yourself.
5. Selfies motivate others to make a change.
Because when you share a story with the selfie you can move a person to action. If you let people see the why behind the pic for any of the reasons above you will motivate readers. You may never hear it but I can promise you will help those that need to redisocver self-love make that step forward.
What are you waiting for?
Grab your phone and snap a selife. You're worth it.
