Compared to the other boroughs, Staten Island is notorious for being the "forgotten" one. With little to do and a reputation for being a large dump, it's mostly spoken about in a negative manner. While it doesn't have much, Staten Island does surprisingly have a lot of delicious places to eat.
All along the North and South shores, Staten Island is home to some of the best places to get anything from brunch and pizza to desserts. So if you ever wind up on the wrong side of the pond or wandering the streets of the forgotten borough (kind of like Ray & Adam from that one episode of "Girls"), check out any or all of the following restaurants.
1. Denino's Pizzeria and Tavern
Famous for it's thin crust pizza and delicious appetizers, Denino's by far one of the most recommended restaurants to try whilst visiting Staten Island. Although they have expanded to three locations (Manhattan and New Jersey), It’s origins and historical value come from the forgotten borough itself.
Location: 524 Port Richmond Ave, Staten Island, NY 10302
2. Royal Crown Bakery and Cafe
Not only is Staten Island’s Royal Crown a great Italian bakery, but it’s an equally great place to get a hot meal, with indoor and outdoor seating. From breakfast, to sandwiches served on freshly made bread, and even pasta dishes, Royal Crown is definitely one of my personal favorite places to get a bite to eat (Don’t forget to order a side of the balsamic glaze…trust me…it’s the best).
Location: 1350 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10305
3. Project Brunch
Fairly new to Staten Island, Project Brunch is a great place to get…well…brunch! With lots of different options, including waffle sandwiches, mac & cheese topped with grilled cheese croutons, and "Instagram-worthy" frozen hot chocolates, Project Brunch has earned a spot on my list of hip places you’ve gotta try…if you’re willing to wait up to an hour for seating (which is totally worth it in my opinion).
Location: 4553 Arthur Kill Road, Staten Island, NY 10309
4. The Phunky Elephant
A self proclaimed “gastropub,” The Phunky Elephant puts a fresh and “phunky" twist on American comfort food favorites, including burgers, mac N cheese spring rolls, and warm pretzel buns. Complete with a bar, brunch, dinner, and dessert menu, as well as indoor and patio seating, this pub is more than just a pub.
Location: 1271 Bay St, Staten Island, NY 10305
5. Beans and Leaves
While this is technically a tea and coffee cafe, It's still a great place on Staten Island to get coffee, artisanal teas, locally baked goods, as well as house made waffles and pancakes. With it's quaint, cozy feel, it's one of the only places like it on the Island.
Location: 422 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10301
