Straight Outta Compton (In theaters August 14)
Based on the notorious rap group N.W.A., "Straight Outta Compton" tells the story of five young men living in one of the most dangerous cities in the country and how their music defined a generation. Their raw and unrefined nature shot them to the top of the American music scene in the late 1980s, and before they knew it, they were one of the biggest acts in the country. With lyrics that were edgy and hardcore, they spoke the truth about their life in Compton, California and the struggles they went through. Their messages still echo today.
Southpaw (In theaters July 24)
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams, "Southpaw" is the tale of a boxer’s rise to the top and his eventual downfall. Billy Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal) thinks he has it all with a perfect family and a successful boxing career, until his life falls apart at the seams. When his family is taken away from him, he is forced to get back in the ring to try to get his life back on track. For Hope, boxing is the only thing that will get him back to where he wants to be.
The Stanford Prison Experiment (In theaters July 17)

Based on a true story, this film chronicles the events that took place in a Stanford University psychology building in 1971. Professor Phillip Zimbardo conducted a study where college students volunteered to be either mock prison guards or mock prisoners for a week. Zimbardo’s experiment quickly gets out of hand when the prison guards start to take things too far with the prisoners. What went on over the course of this study is a chilling story that is well told in "The Stanford Prison Experiment."
No Escape (In theaters August 26)
"No Escape" is a thrilling tale starring Owen Wilson, who, after moving his family overseas, finds himself in an extremely hostile environment. Jack Dwyer (Owen Wilson) and his family unknowingly end up in the middle of a coup, and when foreigners start to be executed he quickly realizes his family is not safe. With the help of a man named Hammond (Pierce Brosnan), Dwyer and his family must fight get back to the United States in one piece.
Black Mass (In theaters September 18)
Based on the life of notorious Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger, "Black Mass" is the gripping story of one of the most sought-after criminals in history. The film stars Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger and Benedict Cumberbatch as his brother, State Senator William Bulger. Aside from being a notorious crime boss, Whitey Bulger was also an informant for the F.B.I. He would give information on rival criminals and gangs in exchange for immunity for his own crimes. This movie is set to be a blockbuster hit, and it is one that I look forward to most in the coming months.
Be sure to check these movies out when they hit theaters!
