Everyone loves jamming out with Troy and Gabriella to "Breaking Free" (whether in secret or in public) and you would have to be living under a rock to have never heard "We're All In This Together". High School Musical is filled with signature songs that get in your head and stay there for weeks, months, and even years. However, there are some songs from the HSM trilogy that never get the appreciation they deserve. Here are the top 5 most underrated songs from High School Musical.
5. When There Was Me And You
This song gets a lot of criticism for being slow and boring. I beg to differ. Gabriella's first (and far from last) ballad comes at such a pivotal point in the movie. Also, the deep and powerful lyrics such as, "now I know you’re not a fairy tale and dreams are meant for sleeping" are enough to make a person stop and re-evaluate their entire lives for a few seconds. Not to mention this song comes with a tour of East High's many hallways and staircases. You go, Gabriella.
4. Everyday
This song wrongfully lies way below the radar. Just when we think Troy and Gabriella are no more, we hear her stunning voice from the crowd and witness the tender reunion of everyone's favorite couple. Here is an excerpt of some of my favorite lyrics from the song:
"Everyday!
Live every day!
Love everyday!
Live everyday!
Love everyday!
Everyday!
Everyday!
Everyday!
Everyday!
Everyday!
Everyday!
Everyday!"
And much like the rest of HSM 2, this song contains a lot of blue: blue sky, blue clothing, Zac Efron's gorgeous blue eyes...
3. Scream
This song can only be described as "Getcha Head In The Game" meets "Bet On It". Sadly, it has not gotten the same amount of attention as either one of those. But with basketballs falling from the ceiling and hallways spinning upside down, this song deserves to be up there with the rest of them. It also doesn't hurt that this number includes Zac Efron angrily running around and yelling while showing off his nicely toned arms (see above).
2. High School Musical
This is the final song of the dearly loved HSM movies and is for some reason overlooked by many. It is where the cast thanks the fans and say their final goodbyes. Listening to this song while reminiscing on your own high school graduation can definitely be a tear jerker. "Who says we have to let it go? It's the best part we've ever known. Step into the future, but hold onto High School Musical". *sobs*
1. Can I Have This Dance

There are no words to describe my feelings for this song. This is the song that will be played as the first dance at my wedding and the song that will be played at my children's weddings. There is a certain magic that comes from watching Troy and Gabriella twirl around in the pouring rain. This is by far the greatest song in HSM history and arguably the best song ever made. The world as a whole needs to make an effort to talk about this song more.
Whether your favorite song appears on this list or not, every song from HSM is great and deserves equal representation. All in all, you just cannot beat High School Musical.
