Whether or not you have a biological dad, an adopted dad, step-father, or see God as your father (which is totally valid), we can almost all think of some male we look up to. We learn so many hard and necessary lessons from our parents, and particularly our dads. I know that mine has taught me so many things over the past years, and while I could write an endless list of those things, I'll narrow it down to 5.
1. There is no sacrifice too big for your family
My dad has worked 2 jobs my whole life, not because he needed to, but because he wanted the best for us. He made sure I was able to graduate from a good private school, and now again (hopefully) from ACU. My education, he says, should always be my first priority.
2. No matter how tired you are, you spend time with your family
My dad has always, always encouraged my love of music and is almost always willing to give up time, money and energy to go with me to see some of our favorite bands live in concert. These are dear memories that I will forever treasure.
3. It's never too late to come to Jesus
Growing up, my dad did not go to church with my mom, brother and I. That changed when I was 14, and again when I was 15 and he was baptized. Now my dad is a part of the missions committee at my home church and has been on foreign missions twice! He has been a shining example of coming to and learning about Jesus.
4. Share your passions with your kids
My dad has always made sure to share what he is passionate about with us. Sports, music, movies you name it. This has exposed my brother and I both to the world around us and has made us better, more well rounded people. It has also allowed my brother and I to form our own passions.
5. You should always be there for your kids, no matter what
I know that my dad will always be there for me, no matter what. Even now, as I have my own apartment and attempt to pay my own bills. My dad is only a phone call away whenever I need him, be it for comic relief, advice, or just to talk.
I love you dad <3
