" Boy Meets World" was one of those slightly cheesy shows with a "moral of the story" moment in every episode. It had the relatable quality that drew you in and was enjoyable for the whole family. If you grew up watching this in the 90s then it was like you grew up with them. They went through middle school, high school, college, marriage, and all of the everyday problems in between. Everybody wanted the Cory and Topanga love story, the Shaun and Cory friendship, and/or Mr. Feeny as their life coach. With that being said, over the years, they have taught us all a thing or two.
1. It's OK to be different.
Cory thought Topanga was one of those girls who would grow up and never shave her legs and Topanga was okay with it. She embraced being different. Being different makes life a little more enjoyable. If we were all the same there would be no awkward moments, no spontaneity, and no creativity. Whether you like interpretive dancing or you dress a little different, always be true to you.
2. Life's tough. Get a helmet.
In reality, our parents didn't seem to enforce the whole "wear a helmet" ordeal, but it's a good metaphor for life. When Cory and Topanga broke up even Shaun thought it was almost the end of the world, but everyone turned out alright (mainly because they got back together and the rain stopped). Things aren't always going to go as planned. There are going to be obstacles. Things may get a little out of whack, but it's life. The ride may not always be smooth, but in the end, you'll make it there.
3. Friendship is important.
Cory and Shaun were the ultimate duo of friends. They taught us that friends, true friends, are always there for you no matter what. Those friendships aren't a common occurrence, but they are the ultimate friendship. The kind of friendship where you aren't the same person, but you completely and fully understand each other, the friendship where you know what the other is thinking without a word, and when you third wheel with them, but aren't the third wheel...that is a Cory and Shaun friendship.
4. Anyone can dance.
This gif was too amusing not to use.
5. Believe in yourself. Dream. Try. Do good.
On a more serious note, from the beginning to the end, Boy Meets World was one nugget of wisdom after another. It taught us to always believe in ourselves and reach for our dreams. It taught us about family, relationships, and friendships. They taught us never to give up and that your friends can be your family too. In between all of the laughter and smiles, there were some serious lessons to be learned during this after school special.
