If you live in Pennsylvania, then you often may think that there is't anything to do in this state (because I know I have). Even though our state doesn't border an ocean like New Jersey, there still is plenty to explore if you have an open mind and a heart ready for adventure. If you're down for some fun this summer with your friends, check out these epic spots in Pennsylvania:
Oh and if any of my friends are reading this, we are definitely doing all of these...just saying.
1. Hike at Glen Onoko Falls
Located in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania
If you love hiking, keep reading. I personally have hiked this trail before and it is very difficult, to say the least. This trail is 4.1 miles long and it is steep and slippery as you climb it. My recommendation is to wear sturdy shoes. If you do make it to the top, however, the views are breathtaking. My mistake was not following the GPS, and I ended up hiking down the waterfall, instead of up it. Either way, it was beautiful and the pictures surely do not do this place justice.
2. Go to a Phillies game
Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Okay, so I know the Phillies aren't doing their best this year (or any year since 2008), but going to a baseball game is a summer classic. Philly fans are the best type of fans, so chances are you'll have fun even if they aren't doing so hot that game.
3. Hershey Park
Locate in Hershey, Pennsylvania
I haven't been to Hershey in years, yet it is always a place I never get tired of seeing. If you've never heard of it, Hershey Park is located in Hershey, PA and is where you get to see how chocolate is made. It is also a really cool amusement park. I mean, who doesn't love chocolate?
4. Lantern Festival
Located in Mohnton, Pennsylvania
The lantern festival in PA is on June 25. However, if you can't make that day, there will be another one in the Poconos on September 10. The lantern festival is an opportunity to hang out with your friends, eat food and make s'mores. When the sun sets, you are able to light the sky with lanterns that are meant to symbolize good luck. They can represent your hopes for the future, regrets that you want to forget, or really anything else. Just a random thought: the lanterns totally remind me of the movie "Tangled."
5. Go to a Drive-In Movie Theater
Located in Orefield, Pennsylvania
The oldest drive in movie theater in the country is called Shankweiler's and is located in Orefield, PA. Although definitely not as popular as indoor movie theaters, drive-ins offer a certain charm and intimacy that you won't find at an ordinary movie theater. And don't worry, most drive-ins like Shankweiler's play modern movies that are not black and white such as "Captain America" and "Monsters University". Plus, you won't have to worry about sneaking in drinks and snacks.
I'm up for a summer adventure, are you?
