This day and age, more and more people are starting to worry about their health, and there are still thousands of people that aren’t. The part that really worries me is that people don't start worrying until something is wrong. This shouldn't be the case. Your health is something you have control of, so why would you not take care of yourself while you can?

This particular topic is very popular now because it's summer time. Everybody is worried about getting that perfect “beach body,” but why are these the only three months of the year that it matters? Our population needs to start focusing so much on the things that really don’t matter, like having a beach body, and focus on the things that do, like living a healthy life. Below are five simple steps to help you get started living a healthier life.

1. Drink more water.

This is something tons of people have problems with. People don’t realize that if you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated. Most people aren’t even drinking half the amount they should be. Many people say that they can’t drink water because it doesn’t have a taste. Well, there's an easy fix to that. All you have to do is stick some lemon or limes in the water, and there you go. You may even get really fancy with one of those infuser bottles and use other fruits, too. The best part about water is it makes you feel fuller, so you end up eating less.

2. Limit sugar intake.

If your goal is to lose weight, this is the number one thing you have to do right here. Sugar intake is a huge problem in America, which is obvious with our obesity problem. So maybe try only having that soda every other day, or giving up sweets for a week. Small steps will help you get to where you eventually want to be, no sugar.

3. Get off the couch.

I shouldn’t even have to say this, but Americans are lazy! Everyone loves to come home and watch the latest TV shows, turn on Netflix or play video games. Do you know that if you exercise at moderate intensity for about 30 minutes, five days out of the week, your risk factors for cardiovascular disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, cancer, diabetes, etc. all decrease? Don’t you think that's worth it?

Now, starting out with 30 minutes of moderate exercise might be a lot, but to begin with, all you have to do is get up. Go for a walk, a bike ride, go swimming at the local pool, do some yoga, do something!

4. Get enough sleep.

You may be able to function with only four hours of sleep, but it's not healthy for your body. When you don’t get enough sleep, the likelihood of other things happening, like getting sick, increases. When you don’t sleep for a long enough period of time, your body isn't able to go through the regular cycle and your sleep was pretty much worthless. Make sure you're getting your 8 hours of sleep, your body will thank you later.

5. Have FAITH that you can!

The number one problem people have is they don’t have faith that they can do it. If you put your mind to it, you can do anything. It's not always going to be a walk in the park, and sometimes you're going to stumble, but the outcomes are so worth it. Listen to music that motivates you or write yourself some inspirational notes. Do whatever you have to do to better yourself. Sometimes you have to find yourself before you can better yourself.

These are five easy steps that you can start this minute to live a healthier life. So get out there and do it! Trust me, you will thank yourself later.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
