Maybe you read this title and thought: what? Or you read it and immediately pictured your husband/boyfriend/crush dressed like Elsa, and started giggling uncontrollably. Either way, this article is for you. My husband Jake is a pretty great guy, and he's helped me realize that Disney princess qualities are not inherently masculine or feminine. So let your husband be a princess! Here they are, in no particular order:
1. He doesn't mind cleaning.
When you get married, chances are that both of you are working or going to school, etc. And lemme tell ya, that stuff doesn't magically go away or become easier to juggle once you get married. If a couple wants to work well together, there need to be some ground rules set in place to save both of you from going insane; rules like "for the love of all that is holy, PUT THE SEAT DOWN AFTER YOU PEE" and "don't try to talk to me about something important while I'm reading." If you can find a spouse who doesn't mind pulling his own weight in the household chores, you've got a keeper.
2. Animals love him.
You know that saying that "You can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats his mother"? Well, I believe that. But I also believe you can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats animals, and by how animals treat him. The above photo of my husband is particularly amusing to me because Jake REALLY dislikes cats, but these felines clearly could not care less! Jake handled this situation like a champ, which really told me a lot about his character.
3. He works hard.
Disney princesses, like Tiana, work their butts off to get what they want out of life, and a good husband is no different. Whether that's clocking long hours in an office, risking his life serving our country, or sweating it out at a minimum wage job to get through college, a good husband makes taking care of his family (however big or small that family may be) a priority.
4. He loves his sleep.
When you get married, little things that you took for granted about your partner (or single life before your partner) start to float to the surface of your mind. Things like never having to worry about falling into the toilet in the middle of the night because SOMEBODY forgot to put the seat down (not that that's ever happened to me, of course...) or how nice it is to have someone sleeping next to you every night, and how lonely those nights are when your husband has to work a night shift. And one of the things that can make those little annoyances more bearable is sleep. Having a spouse that appreciates the sanctity of slumber makes life a whole lot easier.
5. He's beautiful, inside and out.
Finding a husband who has Disney princess qualities is not as hard (or weird) as it may seem. In the end, Disney princesses are women who know who they are, love those around them, and work hard to achieve their dreams. When you sum it up like that, how could you not want to find a husband with those qualities? Every woman deserves her own Disney princess husband!
