5 Bible Verses That Help Me Throughout College

College is a time of trial. It is often filled with stress, worry, anxiety, and financial troubles. While I take pride in being a Christian, there are also times where I feel as though I put college above my religion. When I feel myself slipping in my religion and struggling with college at the same time, I try to dive deeper into some of my favorite verses that have been constant sources of reassurance to me. Here are five bible verses that help me throughout my college experience:

“We know that all things work together for the good of those whole love God: those who are called according to His purpose.” -Romans 8:28

Being a college student is one of the scariest things we will probably ever do. Everything at this point in most of our lives seems so uncertain. The future is uncertain but there is excitement in the uncertainty. Every decision we make could easily have a lasting impact on our future. Through the instability and uncertainty, God reminds us that everything will work out and we will be okay.

“But He said to me, ‘My Grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’ Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.” -2 Corinthians 12:9

There are so many times that I find myself feeling totally incapable and useless. For example, me in a calculus class was one of the worst things I’ve ever been involved in. I cannot do numbers. I couldn’t do numbers if my life depended on it. This verse is a continual reminder that no matter what my weaknesses are, whether it is simply being terrible at math or something more personal, I know God can use those weaknesses to show how great His power is.

“I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content – whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need.” -Philippians 4:12

College is a time filled with instability: instability of grades, of emotions, and of finances. Most students in college have to work one or more jobs in order to make money to pay for their degree. Money is often tight, especially when you have to try to balance it between food, college, sporting events, social events, rent, and who knows what all else. This verse is reassurance for whenever we check our bank accounts to see that they are nearing empty.

“Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” -Matthew 6:23

Almost every day I face in college is filled with stress and worry. That could be anything from stressing over a test to worrying about sorority recruitment and everything in between. It is so easy to catch myself worrying over the small things that in all actuality probably don’t and won’t matter in the long run. This is one of my favorite verses because it has given me peace when I feel like I’m going crazy. This reminds me to be rational and to take everything one day at a time in order to avoid becoming overwhelmed.

“Although my spirit is weak within me, You know my way.” -Psalm 142:3

I am one of those people who constantly question what I’m doing with my life. I doubt my decisions and always wonder about my future. This verse is comforting because it lets me know that the Lord knows how my life is going to play out and He is always there with me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
