We all know that Halloween is a time for candy and costumes, but what's a better way to get in to the spirit of this spooky season than to watch some absolutely terrifying movies? Breaking out the classics like "A Nightmare on Elm Street" definitely gets me fired up for Halloween night. Oct. 31 will be here before we know it, so grab your popcorn, blankets, and some of your friends and plan for a good old fashioned movie night to watch these frightening films.
1. "Friday the 13th."
College students gather 'round and watch this movie about a hockey-masked serial killer, Jason, who sets out to kill college students in the woods. If this movie doesn't make you want to stay inside your dorm or apartment, I'm not sure what will.
2. "The Omen."
This creepy flick will have you thinking twice about wanting to have kids.
3. "Saw."
I can vouch for this movie when I say it's one of the most twisted films I've ever seen, but the ending makes it all worth it.
4. "A Nightmare on Elm Street."
Freddy Krueger and his disgusting red and green sweater should definitely make an appearance on your tv this season. This classic is one that you just can't pass up.
5. "Scream."
Scared of a person who wears masks and has a bone-chilling raspy voice? Me too.
6. "The Sixth Sense."
There's something about children being able to experience the supernatural world that just gives me goosebumps.
7. Halloween
Michael Meyers, please just go back to jail where you belong and stop terrorizing the town of Haddonfield, Illinois.
8. "Pet Sematary."
Most of the time when a pet dies, we wish and wish that they would come back to us. This movie will have you thinking differently.
9. "Deliverance."
I truly believe that this movie is the reason why those who live in the city stay in the city and would rather pull their teeth out than to travel to the south.
10. "Psycho."
If you don't automatically think of the screeching music that comes along with this movie, then you need to watch it. Right now.
11. "The Shining."
If staying in a hotel where there are little to no guests doesn't already freak you out, this horror film will.
12. "The Thing."
What exactly is that thing and how do I shake it from my memory?
13. "Silence of the Lambs."
Trying to catch a serial killer with the help from a serial killer is no easy task for Clarice Sterling, but somehow she gets the job done.
14. "The Blair Witch Project."
A movie with incredible suspense leading up to the ending scene, when the characters finally take on what's been terrorizing them.
15. "Carrie."
When a shy high school student, Carrie White, discovers she has telekinetic powers, all hell breaks loose.
16. "The Ring."
The eerie soundtrack and diverse plot of this film gives it its fright factor.
17. "Night of the Living Dead."
The mother of all zombie movies.
18. "Poltergeist."
Hearing white noise coming from your TV will never be the same again.
19. "The Exorcist."
Again, why do we keep having children when they keep turning out to be the literal Spawn of Satan?
20. "Rosemary's Baby."
See above.
21. "Pan's Labyrinth."
After watching this movie, I will never set foot into another maze ever again. Ever.
22. "Nosferatu, A Symphony of Horror."
"Dracula" rip off? Probably. Much better? Yes.
23. "The Conjuring."
The fact that this movie is based off of a true story alone is enough to give you the creeps.
24. "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre."
Don't go and visit with someone who lives in the country and is surrounded by nothing. Just don't.
25. "Alien."
Something about outer-space really just weirds me out, especially when aliens are involved.
26. "Sinister."
This movie's soundtrack is enough to make you want to immediately regret your decision in watching it, and the events in the plot will have you wishing you never turned on your TV in the first place.
27. "Paranormal Activity."
"Ghosts aren't real!", shouted the annoying girl in your seventh grade English class. Oh, really? Watch this movie.
28. "Insidious."
If you've ever thought about trying to contact the other side, please don't/
29. "Evil Dead."
Pro tip: if you're going to camping, try not to summon the demons living in the woods nearby.
30. "The Fourth Kind."
Please, Devil, just stay away from me.
31. "The Babadook."
Kids and horror movies are a combo that is bound to give you goosebumps.
