People often equate being thankful with Thanksgiving, which is understandable considering it is in the name. However, it doesn't always need to be that way. We should be thankful all the time, and for the tiniest details in our lives. We don't always have to go with the flow and be thankful for our friends, family, and good health (although you should be.) This November, give thanks every day for the small things that you take advantage of.

1. Sunny winter days

As the season progresses and it starts to get colder there is not much a chance of warmth unless the sun is shining. Take that light and appreciate it.

2. Really comfortable chairs

3. The elevator being on the floor you're on

Sometimes you're in a hurry, but you're too lazy to take the stairs. When the elevator just so happens to be on the floor you're on, it can make life seem so much easier

4. The moment your food comes at a restaurant

5. An assignment not taking as long as you thought

No one likes spending a long time on an assignment you don't want to do. When you zoom through it without warning, it can seem almost like a trick question, but sometimes you may just finish things faster.

6. Warm hot chocolate with a seasonal flavor

7. Freshly washed bed sheets and pajamas

Clean sheets make all the difference in the world and it's something to appreciate.

8. When you can fit the perfect amount of steps in on the sidewalk square

Nothing is more satisfying than being able to take an even amount of steps in between the cracks on the sidewalk.

9. When your favorite song comes on the radio at the perfect time

10. The leaves changing color

It's a slow and subtle process, but one of these mornings you're going to wake up and realize that the trees are orange which is a pleasantly surprising moment.

11. Having the ability to improve your life

12. The moment your paycheck gets directly deposited

Who doesn't love getting money? Sure you had to work for it, but I always feel more at ease after earning another paycheck.

13. The first snowfall

14. The first drink of water you get after being thirsty

It is totally understandable to forget to drink water and become dehydrated and that's why that first sip of water is so satisfying. Also, just the fact that you have access to water is something to be thankful for.

15. Animals

16. Your favorite night shirt

It's the perfect size and the perfect level of comfort.

17. Snow days

Who doesn't love getting to sleep in and having extra time to get your work ahead and move ahead with your life.

18. Warm relaxing bubble baths

19. The look on your pets face when you come back from school or work

It's priceless watching your pet run around and attack you before you even get the chance to walk in. That moment is more precious you're coming home from college for a break or coming back from a week long business trip.

20. That one weird family tradition

21. Pull through parking spots

Having to back in and out of a parking spot can be a pain in the butt, especially when it is a particularly busy parking lot. That's why pull through parking spots are a blessing in disguise.

22. Cozy scarves

23. A familiar smell

Any smell can apply for this, even if it's not a good smell. Maybe it reminds you of the one time your dog rolled in his own poop, or maybe it reminds you of your mom decorating for Christmas. Either or, they're good memories to remember.

24. That one soft hat you use in the winter

Hats are meant to keep your head warm, but it's a plus when the hat happens to be

particularly fuzzy

25. Finding a dollar (or more) that you didn't know you had

26. The fact that each day is a chance to start off new

If you really wanted, you could wake up tomorrow and decide to start going by a different name. You have the freedom and the power over your life unlike some people and that is something to be thankful for.

27. The feeling of taking your shoes off after a long day (and/or your bra)

28. Taking the perfect picture while in the car

When driving by beautiful scenery, it's hard to take good pictures.

29. Home cooked meals

Eating a lunch at school or work can never be the same as pulling a pan off the stove and putting food on your plate. Eating out can be fun too, but home cooked meals are more authentic.

30. Yourself

It's simple. Be thankful for yourself and who you are and you will become.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
