As we go through our day to day lives, we often encounter situations that cause us strife and make us question ourselves and the world around us. For many, it's easy to let the negatives in life get them down. To surrender to negativity is an easy outlet that we all choose at one point or another, but some people are chronically affected by negativity. It is very unfortunate to see someone that is so wrapped up in the woes of life because they are missing out on all the positives that could be coming their way. Enter the optimist. The optimist is that annoying person in your life that always has their life in order. They seem overly confident and they are happy with everything life throws their way. What is it about them that makes life seem so great, and how can we get what they have? The short answer is that we probably can't. Some people are just naturally more optimistic than others, but there is a lot we can learn from the optimist in order to make our daily lives better.
1. There are some things we can never control.
The first thing that we can learn from the optimist is that they understand that some parts of our lives are simply out of control. The optimist doesn't take failures personally and doesn't hold on to the bad things that can happen to them. They understand that sometimes what happens is simply out of their control. Accepting that you cannot predict everything that will happen to you is an important step in becoming a happier person.
2. Don't hold grudges.
If you want to be a happier, more positive person, you should allow your grudges to dissolve. Happy people tend to let their grudges go quicker than those who are more pessimistic. Learning to forgive and forget can be a tough task for anyone to accomplish; but knowing that true happiness may lie on the other side is worth giving it a try. Letting go of even just a few grudges will start making a difference in your life.
3. Find the positives in each situation.
This is the one thing that we can see in every optimist. Somehow they are able to find the positive in every situation and roll with it. The reason they can do that is because there actually is something positive that we can take away from every situation. If we focus on the negatives it is easy for us to let a situation control our minds but if we take only the positives away then you can breath easy. For example, when a long term relationship ends, you can be happy that you had the great experience while it lasted rather than being upset about the relationship ending. There are a lot of situations where a positive can be rooted out of the experience. Keep these positive things in mind, it will help you grow as a person and make you a more positive person in the end.
At the end of the day, your happiness is your choice. Life happens to all of us and time stops for no one. How you decide to react to the events in your life will determine how happy you are. If you take the three tips above and strive to implement them in your life, you will undoubtedly start leading a happier, more fulfilled life.
