Women are no strangers to the societal pressure to become a wife. If you were raised in the South, like me, then you've probably heard your grandma or someone else's grandma say "One day, you'll make some boy very happy." I am aware that this pattern is becoming less and less true. Still, it's crucial that we, as women, keep in mind what is truly important.

1. Education

One of the most important components of being a self-empowered woman is to also be an educated woman. This does not necessarily mean that you must have a PhD or even a Bachelor's degree. It simply means that you should be educated enough to be able to form your own belief system and thought basis. Honestly, this doesn't just apply to women. Everyone should have some form of education in order to remain independent and not become a sheep.

2. Yourself

Often I have been told to put other's needs above my own or else I am being selfish. I'm sure you have hear this too. I am hear to tell you that this utter bullsh*t. Of course you should strive to care for others as much as you can. But sometimes, you need to step back and think "What does [insert name] need?" From the time that we're little girls we're told that pretty much our main goal in life should be to care for our husbands and children. Yet again, whoever told you that is wrong. The most important thing to you should be you. It's essential that you never lose sight of that.

3. Your Purpose

How on earth do you expect to share your life with someone else when you have barely gotten yours straight? Your pretty much expected to get married by the time you're 25. By the time I'm 25, I won't even be finished with school yet. So, I definitely won't be set in my career. Which means I definitely won't be ready to give half of everything I have and am to another human being. Don't get me wrong. I'm not criticizing those who get married at a young age. I'm just saying that you should never feel pressured to do so. Not by your parents, not by your friends, not by society, and not by your significant other.

To sum it up, you should basically keep your focus on yourself and becoming your best self before you consider make such a serious commitment. Nothing in this world, definitely not a man, is more important than your own being. Remember that, ladies.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
