3 Reasons I Chose The University Of Alabama

Can I get a "roll tide?"

What’s a girl from northern Virginia doing in the deep south? There are plenty of reasons why anyone would choose the University of Alabama, but here are the ones that stand out to me.

1. The Football

First and foremost, there is undoubtedly nothing better than game days in Tuscaloosa. When I started looking for colleges to apply to my junior year of high school, I was looking for a big school with an even bigger love for football (if this doesn’t scream UA, I don't know what does). The first time I came down for a game was my senior year of high school and I was absolutely captivated. Watching the games on TV is one thing, but actually being there and being a part of the whole atmosphere of it is unbelievable. The tailgates are huge and Alabama fans go all out for the event. You can walk across the quad and see flat screen after flat screen and tent after tent of fans. Not to mention being one of the top nationally ranked teams with 16 National Championships.

2. The Greek Life

Secondly, it’s very difficult to come to the University of Alabama even on a visit and not be absolutely blown away at how incredibly huge and beautiful the houses are. The recruitment process here is the biggest in the nation and about 33 percent of the student body is part of greek life. I always envisioned myself as being an athlete in college (good one, right?) but spending a weekend here visiting my sister and seeing how impressive it was to be a part of something so special made me want nothing more than to join a sorority also. There is nothing better than being able to walk into a room of your sisters and have them ask about your day and genuinely want to hear about it.

3. The Campus

From the quad to the buildings, sorority row, fraternity lane and all of the school buildings, Alabama’s campus is alluring. Denny Chimes is also one of the best things you’ll see on campus, with the walkway of MVP’s and Captains of the football team. The science and engineering complex draws you in with the Shelby Fountain and the large pillared buildings. Walking past the Ferg, you see enormous art sculptures across the lawn. No matter where you are on campus, there is something new to look at and be astounded by. Sometimes when I'm walking to class, I look around and realize how breathtaking the University of Alabama is.

From our athletics to our academics, to the pure beauty that is Alabama, there is no place like it. Can I get a roll tide?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
