Whether you have been busy with school or just haven't been paying attention, winter is upon us. This past week was the first snow fall this winter season. With the school semester coming to a close, anticipation for this winter break has us all excited. I have lived in Indiana all of my life, but when it comes to fun and interactive activities I am clueless. I have compiled a list of a few places to visit this winter break in Indianapolis, Indiana.

1) Christmas at the Indianapolis Zoo

Now, I am not some loser who hasn't ventured out and experienced the many things the Indianapolis zoo has to offer, because rest assured I have. But I have not had the pleasure to experience the wonderful zoo at Christmastime. With Christmas lights lining up the sidewalks, exhibits and gift shops, families can come and enjoy the animals, various rides and maybe a dolphin show or two. Or you can visit Santa's Workshop on your way out. "Christmas at the Zoo” is held Wednesday-Sunday from 5-9pm and runs from Nov. 29-Dec. 29, plus Dec. 23 & 30 this year.

2) Ice Skating at the Indiana State Fairgrounds

With winter break, comes a lot of free time. And if you are a kid, you can get pretty bored pretty fast. At the Indianapolis Fairgrounds, you and your friends can break out some of your ice skating skills. Or if you are like me with two left feet, you and your friends can go and laugh as you watch each other fall on your butts. As an American tradition, ice skating is a great way to spend time with the family and friends. And if you are looking for some great first date ideas, it’s only $6 for ages 4 and up!

3) Free Getaway Canal Walk

Another cute date idea to take that special someone on a budget, for those broke college students like myself, is the Canal. It's a great way to take a romantic walk in the city. Although with Indiana weather it may be a little cold out, but it is totally worth it. Surrounded by fabulous and delicious restaurants, gift shops and river propaganda it is definitely the scenery surrounding the canal is beautiful and the true essence of downtown Indy.

For all native Hoosiers, finding new and exciting activities for yourself and the family can be a bit difficult. However, if you are like me and are a volunteer recluse, just by checking out some local bulletin boards, you can find a new event in Indianapolis weekly. In today's society, cell phones definitely come in handy when trying to find something to do. So if you need me this winter break, check out these places and you just might see me there.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
