While recruitment at South Alabama is approaching quickly, there are some girls trying to decide whether or not to sign up while others are trying to prepare for it. Whichever side you may be on, a little advice can never hurt. So I hope any advice you find in this article may be helpful!
1. What to wear and what not to wear:
First things first, it's not about how much of your butt cheeks or cleavage you have hanging out, but about being classy and sophisticated. During recruitment, you're going to be talking to young, professional women. Just remember that we want to know you for who you are, not what you have. You don't have to wear the Lily Pulitzer every night or a $500 dress. Yes, dress professional and fashionable, but also wear something that represents you. We want you to be comfortable and be yourself.
2. What to bring:
I remember when my roommate and I went through recruitment, there was a huge list of things we thought we needed. Boy were we wrong. However, there are a few essentials that will help you get through the week. Bring a towel or a blanket. Sometimes the ground is wet or the grass is freshly cut. Whatever it may be, you want to keep your clothes clean. And of course it always helps when you start to sweat. Another thing to help with the heat is keeping water with you. Just carry a small cooler bag with you and keep a couple of bottles of water. You might think you won't need it, but you will. By the end of the night you'll feel like you're losing your voice. It's super loud in the houses and you're basically screaming so you can be heard. Another good thing to keep on you is makeup for touch ups. I'm not saying you need to bring your whole makeup bag, but it definitely helps to keep blotting pads, powder and some lip gloss.
3. It's okay to be nervous!
Going through recruitment, I was definitely nervous. And I'm pretty sure it showed. But I promise, it's OK! For a lot of us, this is our first time on the inside of recruitment so we're extremely nervous too. If you're nervous, just go ahead and put it out there that you're nervous. Many of us can relate, and the chances are we can help you settle your nerves. Just remember that we want you to like us just as much as you want us to like you. However, still try to remain calm and collected so we can see your true personality and get to know who you really are.
Hopefully these tips can be of some help to you when you're taking on recruitment. Whatever you do, just remember to be yourself! You will find your home. And remember to trust the system, because it will put you where you belong! It's not always about where your friends go, it's about taking your own path and finding where you belong.
