UCSB and it's neighboring town, Isla Vista, are unique communities. The culture here is unlike any other, making it quirky, fun, and oh so lovable. Here is a list of things that all UCSB students will understand.

1. You chuckle when people say, “Del Playa,” as opposed to, “DP,” and you have most likely been asked where it is.

2. Bikers own the road and always assume they have the right of way; they blow stop signs and will run you over if you get in their way.

3. “Cruise,” “mob” and “dude” have creeped into your every day vocabulary.

4. You treat rainy days like snow days; attendance for class drops dramatically.

5. Isla Vista equals IV.

6. You understand that beer die is considered a sport.

7. And it is referred to as “tossing.”

8. You’ve witnessed at least one gnarly bike accident.

9. You have an unhealthy obsession with Yerba Mate or at least know someone who does.

10. You dread the people who bike slowly next to each other on the bike paths.

11. Freebirds, Blenders, Buddha Bowls and basically any restaurant in IV wipe out your bank account.

12. You are bound to see at least five pictures of the sunset on people’s Snapchat stories each evening.

13. You call the library the “lib.”

14. You know that Halloween and Deltopia are not the same as they used to be, and you automatically hate "out-of-towners" because of it.

15. SB Menus contributes to your lack of funds and increased laziness.

16. You know UCSB’s parties top every other college’s, mainly because they’re on the beach.

17. You are typically sweating when you get to class because chances are that you biked there.

18. Bagel Cafe is what dreams are made of.

19. You get anxiety while walking through The Arbor.

20. You have a love/hate relationship with the quarter system, but nevertheless, defend it aggressively.

21. If you lived in Santa Catalina, then you understand that yelling, “F*** FT!” while driving by is a right of passage.

22. Gaucho ball.

23. You have been warned plenty to never sit on the curb.

24. You have probably wondered if you're going to meet your future spouse at DLG like Jack Johnson.

25. You have taken (or plan on taking) "Sociology 152" at some point in your time at UCSB.

26. If you only go to one sporting event all year, then it’s the soccer game against Cal Poly, and you’ll probably bring tortillas.

27. You defend UCSB students’ collective drinking habits by reminding people that UCSB is ranked number eight on the list for "Top Public Universities in the Nation."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
