Oh yes, everyone's favorite activity to do in classes: Public Speaking!
Pretty much when a teacher assigns a presentation project, I want to jump off a cliff. This just screams anxiety and an unnecessary amount of pressure to perform well. No matter how many times presenting in front of a crowd, I will always have a nervous breakdown and a minor heart attack.
The Thought Process
- Oh no I'm next to go, just breathe, you got this.
- It's three minutes of your life.. you brush your teeth longer than that.
- Okay I have my note cards prepared.
- Oh crap, they're in the wrong order, OMG I checked these like a million times, how did I miss this!
- Okay this is my time to shine!
- Walk up with confidence.
- OMG my dress is sticking to the back of my sweaty legs.. that's awk..
- Do I introduce myself? I feel like everyone already knows who I am...
- Why are there so many people in this class!!?
- How do teachers do this every day?
- Okay, how the heck do I work this presentation clicker thingy?!
- Just broke the projector...that's a great start.
- Sweating so bad...this grey shirt wasn't a good idea. Hello pit stains!
- Okay, focus, you're doing great!
- Wait, I think I saw that guy at Ben's last night.
- Yup, he still has the giant "B" on his hands...They should really make those things smaller... Stop! What are you doing, FOCUS!!
- OMG when is this over.
- Legit no one is even paying attention to what I am saying.
- Three minutes has never felt so long.
- I wonder if people can see my note cards shaking. Try to keep a steady hand...Think like a rock!
- Yay, conclusion time! Almost done! This was easy peasy!
- DONE! I AM ON TOP OF THE WORLD!
- Burning these damn note cards immediately.
- Get grade back....WHAT ONLY AN 86%!!?! I deserve way more than this.
- Heading to Ben's immediately.
Don't really have any advice for you, other than to just breathe... Who am I kidding, there are no tips to get over your public speaking fear. Good Luck.
