You probably all have or have had a "JoJo." You just probably didn't call them that. You probably refer to them as grandma, mamaw, memaw, nana, etc. I call mine Grams, sometimes Nonnie, but I also call her "JoJo" (short for her name Josephine), since I basically came out of the womb.

My mom and I lived with my grandma and grandpa for the first four years of my life, so I was lucky enough to have learned a few things from them. This is a list of what I managed to learn from my JoJo throughout the years.

1.) Carmex is better than Chapstick.

2.) Be slow to anger.

(Even if your granddaughter runs over your brand new sweeper cord, or spills an entire gallon of milk on your brand new carpet.)

3.) Lazy days are for Shirley Temple movie marathons.

4.) Hash is a junkie breakfast must.

5.) Convertibles were created so that you can sing every Shania Twain lyric as loud as your heart desires.

6.) Always put your hair in a bun when riding in said convertible.

(Rat's nests from the wind literally blowing through your hair are not fun.)

7.) Politics are important.

8.) But not as important as Jesus.

9.) Ring the dinner bell for Gramps (Grandpa) with all of your might.

10.) Never turn around while sitting on the kitchen counter. (This will result in a broken leg.)

11.) There's no T.V. channel like the TV Land channel.

12.) Leave it to Beaver was not meant to be left in its era. It should be watched daily.

13.) Italian is the best loaf of bread you'll ever buy.

14.) Grilled cheese is only acceptable if made with Amish store cheese.

15.) Campbell's chicken noodle soup should remain in the can simply because it's incomparable to Gram's homemade chicken soup.

16.) Everything tastes better at Nonnie's house.

17.) Coffee should be in your morning routine, and it is intended to be slurped.

18.) My red hair cannot be color matched.

19.) Hardee's will forever have the best biscuits and gravy.

20.) The only music that should play from your speakers is the 50's & 60's.

(i.e. Purple People Eater, The Three Bells, & Tommy and Laura.)

21.) Travel. Go see lighthouses, go wherever your heart desires, & wherever your wheels will take you.

22.) Every little girl deserves to own frilly dresses, countless bows, embellished purses, and lacy socks.

23.) Sing with all your vocal cords.

24.) It is vital that you know every Sunday school song ever composed.

(You'll still find yourself singing them at 24 years old, driving down the road, annoying your boyfriend with them.)

24.) Hammocks are for naps.

25.) You are never too old to be someone's Sunshine.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
