Being introduced to my best friend is still considered one of my favorite days to think about. Not that I remember it clearly or perfectly because it was over 10 years ago, but all I know is I am so thankful that day it rained. See, as ridiculous as it may sound, the day I met my best friend was the day my life would have changed forever.
My best friend is, hands down, better than your best friend and it didn't happen overnight that she became my other half. It took many years, many tears, laughs, sleepovers, etc. for this friendship to weigh this heavily on me.
She and I have a rare bond. We are so similar yet so different in one million different ways. We were both raised athletes, we matured so quickly, we have a passion for changing the world. But, I'm the emotional one and she is completely emotionless. She's loud and entertaining, I'm quiet and reserved. We are both natural leaders, yet in different ways. Our different opinions, yet similar goals keep us so close and so inseparable.
Not only are we different on the inside, but as we grew our interests changed which meant so did our schedules. Middle school came and she was still my best friend, we didn't see each other as often as we had in elementary school. Though we were changing, our friendship never did. High school finally came around and our interests changed once again. She was the freshman on the varsity soccer team, had lacrosse tournaments every weekend so the two days a week she was free, we spent every minute possible together.
For me, Friday and Saturday nights were about catching up on homework, making cookies and staying warm through the month of January, but for her it was about socializing and growing up. We never let our differences come between us. We have the same group of friends, always have, but like I said, I'm the quiet one and she's the entertaining one.
Senior year of high school came around and believe it or not we were still best friends. The best year of our life was right in front of us and though we both couldn't wait for college, we were ready to enjoy every moment together.
Like all amazing moments, senior year eventually unfolded and our time to part ways was only weeks away. Unlike most incoming freshman, she had to go to school on the August 5 because preseason would start the following day. Up until that morning, everything was so exciting -- honestly, so perfect. I don't think either of us was ready to say bye just yet, but there was no other option.
However many miles separated us, once again our friendship never weakened. I learned so quickly that she would always be my best friend no matter how far away from one another we were, or how different our interests would get. I am so unbelievably thankful to have grown up with my best friend. She is my person and my other half.
