Now that the holidays are done and gone, if you’re like most of the people living in the northern half of this world, the next couple months are gonna be cold, gray and miserable. Here are a few ideas to make that miserable into fun!

1. Host a blanket fort popcorn extravaganza.

A little hot cocoa and a few movies — alone or with your BFF or boo — and you’re bound to have a good time!

2. Venture out ice skating.

Strap on a pair of skates and hit your local rink. Most places have not only rails to hold onto if you’re not exactly an Olympic expert, plus they’ve usually got fireplaces to warm up near after!

3. Have an all-out snowball fight.

Wait till your next big storm hits (probably won't be long, tbh), strap on some good gear and take it seriously. You’re here to win! Then go back inside and warm up before that frostbite sets in.

4. Go swimming.

Invite a few friends to pitch in for a hotel room that has an indoor pool during the weekend, pack a swimsuit and enjoy heated pools, hot tubs and complimentary towels!

5. Go volunteer.

Many soup kitchens are absolutely flooded this time of year and are severely understaffed. Find your nearest soup kitchen, give them a ring and plan a day you can give a few hours. Giving back will make you feel great, even if you can't feel your fingers.

6. Hold a spa night.

Crack open a roll of cookie dough, use some new face masks and give each other manicures. So what if those hands are just gonna end up in gloves most of the time?

7. Visit an indoor water park.

Kept at a tropical temperature, most water parks in your area are going to sell day passes. Gather a few friends, grab a day pass and spend a day sliding slides, enjoying hot tubs and just hanging out in the warmth in that bikini you definitely didn’t get to wear enough last summer.

8. Go to a hockey game.

Usually less cold then they sound, grab a nosebleed seat to a hockey game and have fun cheering for your team!

9. Go eat hibachi.

Nothing warms you up quite like a giant freaking fire in front of your face.

10. Bake it out!

Spend a day baking! The oven will keep you warm and nothing says happy quite like a stomach full of homemade cookies. Or store-bought-dough cookies. No judgment!

11. Have a Netflix-a-thon.

Some popcorn and binge-watching can do a soul good!

12. Try out that chicken noodle soup recipe.

Remember that chicken noodle soup recipe grandma has floating around that you totally love when you have a cold? What a better time to try it out than when it's sub-zero? Plus, it could totally double as a heater when you have to venture out there.

13. Go cuddle some puppies.

Animal shelters see a drop in people volunteering during the winter. If you can brave it, bundle up and take those shelter huskies for a much-needed romp in the snow!

14. Try to learn that trivial talent.

Always wanted to whistle? Never knew how to do origami? Really want to know a few magic tricks? Always wanted to know how to yo-yo? Now is your chance! Watch a few YouTube videos and work on it until you’re a pro!

15. Learn how to do that smokey eye.

There’s nothing better than blasting your fave tunes, watching a few beauty vloggers and perfecting that “going out” look for when it actually warms up enough for you to start hitting the parties again.

16. Buy matching pajamas and don't change once.

Go to Old Navy with a few friends or your SO, buy a pair of pajamas for each person and do not change once during a lazy Sunday. It just feels wrong to get out of something cozy on a snow day!

17. Throw a dance party.

Nothing gets your blood pumping like throwing on you and your BFF's fave jams and dancing it out.

18. Pretend it's still summer.

A jar of lemonade, your fave summer outfit and a picnic on your living room floor can be a fun activity for any day, anytime.

19. Make a song.

Maybe you're talented on an instrument or you've got a nice voice but either way, if you try your hand, it's bound to take up part of a winter day and you'll be able to say you've got one up on T-Swift.

20. Revisit your old fave games.

Coolmathgames? Roblox? Minecraft? We all had a guilty pleasure as a kid. Check up on your old characters! Try not to think about all your Club Penguin Puffles that are gone now, though.

21. Go sledding.

Dig that old sled out of the basement, pick your old favorite hill, and sled just like you would when you were little. So what if you give up after 2 treks up the hill because you're out of shape? It's the experience that counts.

No matter what kind of weather you're living in, there's bound to be something for everyone on this list! Even if you are one of the lucky ones. Looking at you rn, Florida.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from.
