It’s that time of the year again. Christmas is over and we begin to prepare ourselves for the New Year. We start debating how we want to celebrate this rollercoaster of a year we are leaving behind us and begin compiling a list of things we want to do in the New Year and what we hope to find. Half the time, a week into the year, we forget about them and go back to our old ways. Every year we say that it will be different but not much changes regarding what we do. Here’s a list of things you can do this year to better yourself, your year and see some change around you.

1. Compose a sleeping schedule

2. Save more money on a weekly/monthly basis

Let's be honest, it's always good to save money. Even if its just $10 or $15 a week, you're helping yourself out for the future.

3. Make more home cooked meals

4. Try new foods

5. Try meatless Monday

6. Drink more water

Yes, we've heard this a million and one times but it's true. Drinking more water is a simple thing that can be done and it helps to better your health.

7. Use fewer social media

8. Be more thankful

We should try to be thankful on a daily basis. Try to find something to appreciate and be thankful for every day to boost the positivity in your life.

9. Meet new people

10. Listen to more and new music

11. Forgive others

12. Forgive yourself

Sometimes we find it easier to forgive others than forgiving ourselves. Some things are out of our control and we must learn to forgive our own mistakes.

13. Leave room for mistakes

14. Pick a bad habit, and break it

15. Find ways to avoid procrastination

16. Take more pictures

Pictures can bring back a million memories, so take as many as you can.

17. Travel more

18. Find a new passion

19. Be more fit

Yes, this is one of the ones we say we will do but half of us end up not. Try small things to become more fit and work your way up to more. You got this.

20. Set weekly/monthly goals

21. Make more "me time"

We often forget to focus on ourselves and show more self-love. So try to treat yourself more often and make time for yourself and your needs.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
