2017 Showed Me What Real Love Is

Each year that comes and goes becomes a little more special. We all grow up a little more, learn a little more, and seek a little more. Going into a new year, we all hope for the best but expect and prepare ourselves for the worst. What 2017 has given me is something that I hope 2018 can measure up to.

It brought me you.

2016 was rough, and I was definitely not in the best place, and somehow we went from not hearing from one another to dating in what seemed like a snap of my fingers.

Our story is not typical of a normal couple's, but that's what makes us interesting. Four years of us both dating the wrong people only for us to figure out January 13, 2017, that we were just always meant to be. Two of those four years were spent being each other's best friends, and the next two were spent not talking. We both knew it was wrong but neither of us knew what to do.

I didn't think we'd ever speak again. I always had messages typed out and ready to go, but I could never seem to bring myself to hit the send button, and soon after we started talking again, I realized it was the same for you.

If you asked me what I thought 2017 would bring me during the last week of 2016, I would have never thought it would bring my best friend back to me. While dating the wrong people was a painful experience for the both of us, we now know something that most couples will never find out until it's too late.

We know what it's like to not be together already. We know what it's like to not have each other in our lives, and it's not something either of us would ever want to go back to.

We spent 2017 eating lots of great food, taking lots of pictures, having lots of laughs, and most importantly, finding out what the meaning of real love is. From our seats on the Chase Bridge at MSG watching our New York Rangers play to the islands of Greece, the memories we've made thus far most people couldn't dream of having in a lifetime.

We are blessed to have found our way back to one another somehow.

Whether it be God, destiny, fate, a little bit of all three, something that was bigger than the both of us pulled us back together and there was nothing we could do to stop or change it, not that we wanted to anyway.

It's a sucky statement to hear when you don't want to hear it, but things have funny ways of working out, and "what is meant to be shall always be."

As we're coming up on our one year of being together all I can say is thank you to 2017 that it brought me you. Let's see if 2018 can measure up to what 2017 has already given us. I can't wait to have so many more adventures with you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
