What's one thing that remains constant in almost every girls' lives? Girlfriends.
Most recently redefined by Taylor Swift and her gang of high profile models, actresses and singers, 'Squad Goals' are something to be achieved. What's important to remember about the squad is where it all started. 'Squad Goals' starts out with the people who mean the most to you. Your best friends, who are there for you through thick and thin.
The Cheetah Girls said it best when they sang, "We are sisters, we stand together." This song along with many others has taught girls that we can uplift each other.
I've had friends come and go throughout the years but there are a few things that remain true about whatever 'squad' I have at the time (and should hold true about most).
1. We've always got each other's backs.
Whether it's my best friends at home or my best friends at college, I know that they all have my back. They are there to help me feel better if I'm going through a tough time or just there to listen to me rant about how stressed I am.
2. We're the same, but different.
This is important to me in all relationships in my life. In my friendships, I find that my girlfriends and I have many things in common, but that does not mean we are the same people. Find similarities between you and your friends, but never let go of the individuality that made you friends in the first place.
3. We finish each other's stories.
We are able to do this because we are by each other's sides during important moments. Birthdays, holidays, rough times, they've seen it all. We can laugh about the time Molly had to go to the doctor because she took too many gummy vitamins or the time Breeden and I quit soccer freshman year. They are there for it all.
4. We remind the others that boys aren't worth it.
One thing we'll never fight about? Boys. They're not worth the time or energy. We express our opinions about them peacefully and then let it go. We can worry about all that another time.
I am so grateful to have been blessed with amazing friends during my life. So to B, Caroline, Angela, Geena, Abby, Tina, Molly, Alyssa, Bri, Rachel, to the girls in my sorority and to all the girls who have had an impact on me, thank you! You have given me the ultimate squad.
