It's that time of year again! Ah, yes, Thanksgiving Break. The school year is winding down, and we are all preparing for the long anticipated holiday season. If you have visited a fellow Eagle's social media page, it is clearly evident that we are more than ready for sweater weather, food, family, and a break from school. But, you know, Thanksgiving is all about being grateful. So here are a few things that we can say "Thanks!" for at our beloved alma mater.
1. Well, obviously, the first thing on this list is going to be Thanksgiving Break. Thank you, Winthrop, for giving us time to go home and enjoy some time away from school.
2. Being so close to home. Okay, so this doesn't apply to everyone unfortunately, but we do have a lot of in-state and North Carolina-based students. Thank you, Winthrop, for being so conveniently located only a few hours from just about everywhere in the 803 and 843.
3. We are definitely thankful for food that doesn't come directly from Thomson or Digs. It's nice to have a break and eat home-cooked meals for a little while.
4. But don't get us wrong, we are still very thankful for our beloved Dining Services for providing us with nourishment when we need it most. C'mon, people, it's not bad!
5. And while we are on this subject, let us have a moment of praise and gratitude for our Starbucks on campus. Your warmth and consistency welcomes our weary eyes and heavy workload.
6. Thank you, Winthrop professors, for the immense amount of major assignments due after break.
HAH, JUST KIDDING. You owe us a lot of pumpkin spice lattes for that move, but we still love you.
7. We are forever grateful for all of the lasting friendships and unbreakable bonds we have gained at Winthrop!
8. We are also thankful for the organizations on campus that have turned us into better leaders and team members. Thank you, Winthrop, for giving us mentors and friends from different backgrounds so we can come together in one unified student body.
9. Also, props to our roommates for putting up with our crap on a daily basis. Learning to live with someone new prepares us to be more forgiving and conscientious human beings. Mad props to the Resident Assistants at Winthrop who can manage an entire floor of 18-19 year olds while still being fabulous. So many thanks to all of you.
10. Thanks to all of the professors, departments, and advisers who put in a lot of work to make sure that we get our expensive piece of paper. Thank you for listening to us freak out about our assignments and grades this past week, and doing your best to help us get through this stressful time in our lives. You guys rock, and you go way beyond your call of duty.
11. I don't know about you, but I'm really grateful for large lecture style classrooms (ground floor Kinard, anyone? Bueller...Bueller?) where you can totally fall asleep in class and your professor won't know. Most of the time.
12. You know what, we are even thankful for Dacus library. Even though you kind of smell like depression and chicken wings and your glaring lights induce migraines, you've had our backs in our worst moments, Ida Jane. Thanks, girl.
13. Shout out to our professors for grading our pre-break assignments over turkey and gravy. You guys rock, and we are mad thankful.
14. We are grateful for Legion Lot. When it seems like all hope is lost and there is nowhere to park on campus, you're always there whispering in our ears "Come here, friend. There is always space in my home".
15. We are definitely thankful for the many opportunities to have been able to see multiple presidential candidates this year. Winthrop has seen an incredible rise in political interest, as well as the joy of getting national attention for hosting these events.
16. We are thankful to have a cool new President, Dr. Mahony!
17. Our football team which is STILL. TOTALLY. UNDEFEATED. Boo-yah. Seriously though, thank you Winthrop for having an awesome athletics program. Even though we are an artsy kind of school, you still manage to bring us together for the love of sports.
18. We are thankful for starry nights on Scholar's Walk, where the moon illuminates the historic beauty of our campus.
19. We are thankful for a school that appreciates art and culture (even if it means we have to go to a few cultural events).
20. Last but not least, we are grateful to be EAGLES. We are grateful to attend a school that welcomes us with open arms, so we can be whoever we want to be and chase our dreams!
