The illusion of living in a foreign country has (for lack of a better word) seemed “foreign” to me until now. I never thought the day would arrive but the official countdown has begun. With my Instagram feed crowded with friends boarding planes, ready to jet-set around the world, I guess I too should get my life in order. But planning is not my forte. It would make life a lot easier, less stressful and probably more successful, but what fun is that anyway? So like everything else that should be taken seriously, I booked my study abroad trip the day of the deadline and haven’t looked back since.
Thinking rationally is not a strong suit either (add it to the list) and so here stands a snapshot of an average 20 seconds in my head. Maybe it’s anxiety or maybe it’s just the double espresso shot weighing in, but nothing makes my thoughts work overtime like thinking of abroad. With so much to do and so little time… I think I’ll continue to sit here and watch Gossip Girl and hope that someone else out there is thinking like this too.
1. This is so exciting: I can’t believe I am studying abroad.
2. Oh em gee, I’ll finally have exciting Instagrams! Sayonara Jersey shore pics.
3. Was that Spanish? Shoot I can’t speak Spanish. Do they speak Spanish in Spain!?
4. Maybe I should study the language before I leave. No that’s ridiculous, no one studies for abroad.
5. What if I fail the classes? Why are they all in Spanish?! They hate me. This is definitely torture.
6. Maybe if I fail, I can be a super senior. I’ll get back the semester I missed!
7. Wait no, I’ll be so old. No one wants a mom at their parties. Scratch that plan.
8. Ugh but I’m still missing a whole semester at school.
9. Will people remember me when I get back!? Is that a thing?
10. No it’s fine. FOMO isn’t real.
11. Ugh yes it is. Maybe I should cancel the whole trip. No wait, never mind, then I'd be homeless. I’d deff rather be homeless in Europe than Bryn Mawr.
12. I’m going, enough. Okay done, yes I am going. Phew. That was a close one.
13. I should probably book a flight.
14. Ahh a suitcase. I need one of those too.
15. Wait what should I pack… Nikes and leggings are cool there right?!
16. Okay, mall tomorrow. That’s it, I’ll buy new clothes and no one will even know I’m a tourist.
17. Better yet I’ll just shop over there!
18. Then I can say “oh this old thing? Picked it up in Europe.” Thanks Carrie Bradshaw, you’ve inspired me.
19. Ill make a to-do list. That’ll help. I will be organized and proactive and have everything together. This will be great.
20. Wait was I supposed to get a passport for this?
