1. Endicott has the best pizza.

Without a doubt, the family-owned Italian restaurant are a must when you have company in town. Tonys, Nicks, Consols, we love you.

2. You will ALWAYS know what a Spiedie is.

No, a spiedie is not like any other piece of marinated chicken, or lamb, or pork. It is better…much better.

3. In the middle of the Winter, 30 degrees starts to feel warm.

Let a couple months pass and the 30's won’t even feel that bad. You might not even need to go out in your heaviest coat.

4. A year without snow is a rare sight.

It has happened, but rarely ever. Snow always seems to come by the foot, and when it hits, it hits hard. Get those snow plows ready because the shovel just isn’t gonna do it in Binghamton, NY.

5. The Church Feast Days are some of the best weekends of the year.

There is always the debate over which Church has the best food and live music. But when it comes to it, you always end up going to see all of your friends and family, and your friend’s family, and your family’s family, and even your family’s family’s family. Let’s face it, you see everyone you’ve ever met before in your life in the Church parking lots.

6. Wegmans is always the answer.

Need groceries? Go to Wegmans. Starving and need a quick lunch? Go to Wegmans. Want to grab a coffee? Go to Wegmans. Babysitting and the kids want candy? Definitely Wegmans.

7. There is only 1 mall.

This is probably really upsetting to all you big-time shoppers, but you’ll always remember there only being 1 mall, and you probably owned the same clothes as most of your friends.

8. Dicks Sporting Goods started right here.

We will always be proud that one of the most successful sporting stores started right here in Binghamton, NY.

9. You will run into at least 1 person you know.

Whether you’re going to CVS, Target, Broadway, Weis/Wegmans, you will see AT LEAST one person you know. But most of the time, it turns into a reunion.

10. The Spiedie Fest.

Fire up those balloons because it’s Spiedie Fest time. Not only do we have these little heavenly pieces of chicken, but we dedicate an entire weekend to them with music, massive crowds, a ton of food, and oh, that’s right, hot air balloons.

11. You toured every single Carousel in Broome County when you were in elementary school.

This was quite possibly the best field trip of your young life because for a couple of days, you got to ride carousel after carousel around all of Binghamton. Well we are the Carousel Capital of the world.

12. Skate Estate was the place to be.

Started in elementary school and carried on through middle school, you had countless trips to Skate Estate, and let’s face it, part of you wants to go back to especially play some lazer tag.

13. Little League were the best days ever.

You can’t forget throwing your T-shirt on and lining up in the outfield of your main field in your ball park on opening day. And the slush puppies… can’t forget those either.

14. The rivalries are the best.

Let the Sea of Orange, Spartan 300, Vestal Den, and Binghamton Fan Club go at it at football and basketball games… it makes it so much better.

15. Fall Foliage is absolutely amazing.

Driving through the hills in Upstate, NY definitely can have its perks. When all the leaves change colors, it is beyond breathtaking. (Robinson Hill in Endwell is a personal favorite)

16. It is pretty much always cold.

Three-fourths of the year it is cold. Summer is basically the only time when it is “hot”, and that’s if we even get into the 80's. So, yeah, it’s always cold…and raining, it’s also always raining.

17. Broadway Diner is the place to be on a Saturday/Sunday morning.

You and your neighbor and your neighbor’s son’s dog’s best friend’s uncle will all be crowded into the best diner around on a Saturday and Sunday morning.

18. The Dick’s Open is one of the best weekends of the year.

Calling all golf lovers (and concert goers), that one weekend in the summer might just be what you look forward to all year-round, I know I do. Filled with golf, a ginormous live concert, and…SPIEDIES!

19. Welcome BU kids.

Once August rolls around, forget even going near the Vestal Parkway. Target, Walmart, every restaurant, etc. suddenly becomes filled with people you’ve never seen before (which is weird around here) wearing BU sweatshirts.

20. Everybody knows everybody.

Around here, your best friend is most likely your cousin’s neighbor’s best friend, too. You find yourself saying, “Wow, what a small world” a lot.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
