20 Things I Want from 2017

The last thing I want is to be singing along to Bad News by Kanye West.

20 Things I Want from 2017
Liz Abere

2016 was one hell of a year for most of us, and there's no doubt about that. With that being said, I'm hoping that 2017 will be a million times better and that most of things on this list will turn into a reality.

1. I want to survive this upcoming spring semester.

Fall semester was crazy and kind of hellish from the few toxic and fake people that were in it, and I really hope that spring semester won't be the same way.

2. Also, I want to not cry at graduation.

I may not miss Pace once graduation is over with, but the last thing I want to do is cry as I'm at graduation since my undergrad career will officially be dead.

3. I don't want any toxic people to either come into my life or to return.

These are the kind of people that I want to leave before they even entire my life.

4. At some point within the next semester, I want to own my own hula hoop.

It may seem stupid and obnoxious, but a girl can dream.

5. It'd be nice if Starbucks and Spotify made the decision to sponsor me.

I'd love to live in a world where I was sponsored to promote green tea lattes and music.

6. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long to turn 21.

Being 20 was great and all, but I just want to move on.

7. I want my parents to understand that me graduating an entire year early is a blessing and not a curse.

Sure, it wasn't part of the plan, but things don't always go according to this plan.

8. I'd love it if any one of my articles from either Odyssey or from Spoon University reached 50k views.

Views aren't everything, but it'd be nice to see how far my articles can go.

9. I want to learn what it's like to be a koala bear astronaut.

Weird combo, but a girl can think of the most random things.

10. I'd want to be able to walk down the street to the beat of music without people constantly feeling a need to stare at me as if I have five heads.

Just stop looking at me and let me do my own thing. I'm not even concerned with your presence.

11. I'd want an abundance of cheese fries to be delivered to my dorm as soon as possible.

Who doesn't love cheese fries?

12. I'd love to get super tan without having to experience getting a sunburn.

I can't wait to see how many times I'll have to go to Brighton Beach in Brooklyn in order for this to happen.

13. Someday, I hope to get a super well paying job.

Almost everybody wants this, but not everyone works for it.

14. I hope that I could jump on someone's trampoline.

It'd be such a great stress reliever.

15. I wish that I was able to eat cookies and donuts all day long, but I can't.

I just wish they loved me back as much as I love them.

16. I want to make the music duo ASTR my entire life anthem.

Yes, please and thanks. My favorite song from them is Closer, which is done with Hoodboi. I also like their song Get So High.

17. I want my spring break to be fun, yet I also want it to have tons of sleep in it.

I am very sleep deprived and not afraid to admit it to the entire world.

18. I hope I turn into the avocado roll that I'm meant to be.

I'm over being a human being with feelings and stuff.

19. I'd want to be able to lose a lot of weight without putting in an excessive amount of work.

I'm super lazy but want to be super skinny all at the same time.

20. If my cat loved me for once, that'd be great.

Spocky, I just want your love and affection.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
