20 Signs You Went to Bishop Ready High School

High school... Friday night football, study hall shenanigans, waking up at 6 A.M. every day... honestly, I loved it all. Being a proud graduate of Bishop Ready High School, a small school in the big city of Columbus, Ohio, I look back on my high school years with great memories. When graduation came, everyone kept saying never to forget the Ready family because the Ready family will never forget you. Here are 20 signs you went to Bishop Ready High School -- dedicated to my Ready family.

1. You sang the alma mater after every single all school assembly.

"Alma mater Ready High, blessings are on thee!"

2. You tested the uniform policy almost every day.

Short jumpers, ankle socks, colored undershirts, no belt… the list goes on and on. This was especially true on dress down days.

3. On “Chicken Potato Bowl Day,” you planned out your route to the cafeteria to be first in line.

To this day, it truly is scary how fast students will run.

4. You folded your jumper flaps and still don’t understand why it was considered “cool.”

Bishop Ready was the only CCL school to do this and I demand to know who started this trend.

5. You wore a sweater to the science wing, but then once you turned that corner towards the sweltering main hallway, that baby came right off.

[Sweats profusely.]

6. You walked down the infamous prom red carpet.

What’s better than walking down a red carpet, all eyes on you dressed in your best, and Mr. Lang announcing you and your date's name loud and proud? Not much.

7. You drove to several different locations for “home” football games.

Will BRHS ever get their own football stadium?

8. “Whose practice jersey are you wearing?”

Ah, the days of the practice jersey and all the stress that came with tracking down a football player willing to grace you with his to wear for the big game.

9. You know the meaning of “Live the Fourth.”

As a freshman, you wondered what the big deal with Kairos was. As a senior, you found out what the big deal with Kairos was.

10. Mrs. Curtin is one of your favorite people on this earth.

Mrs. Curtin, will you make an appearance at my wedding and be my first born’s godmother?

11. If you went to Ready, there's a good chance your entire family did.

Some go back generations and that’s just part of what makes Ready a “family.”

12. “No, it’s pronounced Bishop REEDY.”

Number one pet peeve.

13. You always have a special place in your heart reserved for Mrs. Moore.

The race to sign up for the library during study hall was similar to lions fighting for a gazelle in the wild.

14. You had semester exams AFTER Christmas break, unlike all of the other CCL schools.

Oh well… more studying over Christmas break!

15. You never studied for semester exams over Christmas break.

It’s a "break" for a reason.

16. You made sure you were in every club! Scratch that… you made sure you were in every club PHOTO in the yearbook; e.g. Bake Club, Chinese Club, Book Club.

Was Bake Club ever real though?

17. “May you be in heaven a long time before the devil knows you’re dead.”

I can still hear Father Toner say this in my head.

18. The most read book by students was Progress Book.

It was there, through the good times and bad.

19. You stressed over what to wear for the first day of senior year because seniors didn't have to wear uniforms for school pictures.

But why were pictures on the first day of school anyways? Ready at the end of August? That's not just a glossy photograph... no, that's visible sweat beads on our foreheads because it's so dang hot in our school.

20. Night was changed to Knight at any given chance; e.g. Neon Knight, Senior Knight, A Knight at the Races.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
