20 Signs You Grew Up In Olathe, Kansas

Growing up in Olathe, Kansas is something that will always be a part of you. You grew up near the amenities that Overland Park offered while still being close to everything that Kansas City has to offer. Olathe was truly a wonderful hometown to be from. Read on to reminisce on your favorite Olathe memories.

1. You know exactly what a Johnson County white girl is.

Starbucks, Uggs, and yoga pants basically sum up what pops into your head when you hear those four words.

2. You don't know what life is like without Starbucks on every corner.

In desperate need of caffeine? Don't worry, there's three Starbucks locations on your way to school.

3. You miss the Olathe Hy-Vee every time you're out of town.

Open 24/7? Steaming Chinese? Hummus Bar? Heck yes!

4. The middle school you went to was named after a trail from the 1800's and your high school was Olathe with a direction.

Did you go to Prairie Trail? Frontier Trail? Mission Trail? California Trail? I went to Olathe South! Did you got to North, East, or Northwest?

5. Sheridan's has the best frozen custard around.

And nobody can argue otherwise. Have you had their Buckaroo??

6. You grew up going to Deanna Rose Farmstead.

Whether it was for a field trip or just with your family, you're familiar with fishing at the pond and trying to spot the Buffalo.

7. You know what real BBQ tastes like.

Fortunately, Oklahoma Joe's (now Joe's Kansas City) BBQ decided to open their second location in Olathe and nothing compares.

8. You're a die hard Chiefs, Royals, and Sporting KC fan.

And every time they actually win everybody freaks out.

9. You spent your summers at Worlds of Fun.

Mamba, Patriot, Boomerang, Fury of the Nile, Prowler, you've ridden them all on a hot summer's day.

10. Your field trips consisted of the Nelson Art Museum and Science City.

And Science City was actually really fun like one big playground.

11. You've been asked if you live on a farm.

And you always give the person asking this reaction.

12. Your mouth waters when you hear the phrase "cider mill donuts".

Nobody understands how delicious those donuts are.

13. You spent your Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends at "the lake".

Lake of the Ozarks that is. Everyone invites their friends to their lake-house and spends the weekend jumping off the dock or tubing.

14. Your high school was as big as a small university.

With over 2000 students, this is just a fact of life.

15. You refer to Johnson County Community College as "joco".

You're not sure how this came about, but everyone knows what you're talking about when you mention it.

16. You hung out with your friends at Oak Park Mall.

Oak Park Mall was the cool place to hang with your friends and go shopping.

17. During the Christmas season you went to see the Plaza lights at least once.

They're even more breath-taking in person.

18. All the streets are in a grid system and it's beautiful.

You rarely get lost and East/West streets are all numbered. Live at 135th & Blackbob? I know exactly where that is!

19. I-35 traffic is a struggle.

You've definitely been stuck in that rush hour traffic at around 5 pm.

20. You realize how lucky you were to be brought up in such a great city.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
