On a very bad day no advice seems to be good enough and everything is working against you. But at the moment when you are most irritated and close to tears of frustration, the best thing can be just someone's words. Kind mindful words that can help calm you down and focus on the better.
I have gathered my thoughts into a few statements to help you feel like you can do it, even if it seems to be breaking you in two.
1. You've gone through this before, you can do it again.
2. Some people would be happy to have your bad days.
3. There are only 24 hours in today.
4. Days like these are the ones you learn most about yourself and your strength.
5. Be gentle with yourself. There are way too many people who will do the blaming for you.
6. Treat yourself and eat something good. You deserve it.
7. Being positive in an awful situation is not silly or naive, it's brave and mature.
8. Don't obsess over what you did wrong. It's done and gone. Think of how to do your best in other things.
9. Refocus your attention from your own troubles and help someone else instead.
10. Do not let your emotions be stronger than your mind and good sense.
11. Be kind to others even if you don't feel like it. Even to mean people.
12. Forgive people even if they're not sorry.
13. Is this the worst thing that could happen? Probably not.
14. Usually, after those really bad days something completely wonderful happens.
15. Dressing up and taking good care of yourself really helps on the bad days.
16. At the end of the day, come home and do something you love doing. Think of how much good you actually have in your life.
17. Have you done everything you can to help the situation? If not, do it now and do your best. If yes, let it go and release your worries.
18. Don't complain to others. Talk of happiness and good things.
19. But if someone is there to help you and listen, let them.
20. Be the love and kindness you might not have received today.
Think of these truths as you go through a hard day. Save them in your notes on your phone, look at them throughout the day. Try to rest in knowing that this too shall pass and you are doing the best you can.
One thing I have come to know - everything we do matters. Every word and every action has a reaction and a following outcome. Make even your worst days be a beginning of something good. Learn from them and use them to your advantage, not to break you but to inspire you.
And if you ever need just a hug or a few encouraging words from a fellow human, trust me, some people care more than we can ever know. Let your friends and family love you and be there for you on those bad days.
If your bad day is today - I am there for you. This day will also come to its end and a new tomorrow will accept you. There are no mistakes in tomorrow yet. Look forward to it and stay strong, friend.
