20 Questions I Have About Penn State's Reopening Plan

I always knew my freshman year of college was going to be exciting, I just never knew how much. This pandemic has taken a lot away from me, from everyone. There's many measures being taken to ensure the safety of everyone. This isn't coming from just the government, the schools are putting things in place to ensure the safety of everyone on the campuses. They're making sure everyone can return to campus in some way.

Though they're creating plans and putting things in place, there's still so many unknowns. The schools can't account for everything, especially not the future. They don't know what will happen in a few months, or even a few weeks into the beginning of classes. There are so many questions I, and many others, still have. These are just a few questions many of us want answers to.

1. Is there a possibility of the campus closing before Thanksgiving?

2. Will spring semester start online?

3. If the majority of classes are being done online, why is tuition still so high?

4. Will students be required to take a COVID test before stepping on campus?

5. Will students be tested while on campus for COVID?

6. Will student living in dorms have to completely move out in November?

7. Will outdoor dining be an option at the dining halls?

8. Are private library study room still going to be accessible?

9. How will student life be regulated?

10. When will students be allowed to visit other dorms?

11. What will happen if a student living in the dorms tests positive?

12. How will students order food from the dining halls?

13. Will students be allowed to go to sporting events?

14. What will happen to student activities?

15. If a student plans to stay home, but still has an in-person class, what would happen?

16. Will approved masks be given to students and faculty?

17. Is there a quarantine protocol in place?

18. Will hand sanitizer be provided around campus?

19. Will any dining halls add seating during the semester?

20. If the campus does close early, how long would students have to pack-up and leave?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
