1. We have the snowiest city in America

Syracuse, New York continually comes in as the snowiest big city in America. This isn’t something we should be proud of. Why can’t we be known as the sunniest city or the city with the nicest climate? Even cities such as Rochester and Buffalo come in close to the top of the list.

2. The Golden Snowball Award

This prestigious award goes to the City in upstate New York who receives the most snowfall. You know there’s nothing good about upstate winters when our cities are competing for awards no one really wants to earn.

3. Hearing how much snow NYC gets

I’m sorry but, no one from the “city” has any idea what a true snow storm is. Every time we hear the city received a few inches and it’s threatening to close everything down we all just sit back and laugh.

4. The non-stop freezing cold

From the middle of November (even sometimes October) to March you can expect to see everyone bundled up in coats and hats trying to stay warm. No one is safe from the cold. There’s No escape.

5. Ice

Every time you take a step outside you fear that your next step may just be the one that sends you falling. You are always questioning whether it is just a wet spot or actually ice. It usually always ends up being ice.

6. HILLS of SNOW

There’s a reason Nickelodeon made a movie based on the Winters in Upstate New York, Syracuse to be exact. Snow Day perfectly illustrates the amount of snow that can pile up during an overnight blizzard. Just picture mountains of snow towering over everyone on each street.

7. Snow Days

This should be titled the “Lack of Snow Days.” It could be 0 degrees with a foot of snow on the ground and we will still have to go to school. Snow days are a myth in upstate New York.

8. Endless Winds

Anytime you have to walk somewhere outside you can expect to have the wind blowing in your face. The wind-chill can often times get well below zero. Tears of pain will almost always run down your face.

9. Allergies

Welcome to a world of 24/7 stuffy noses and just overall sickness. You begin to have a choir of coughing in all of your classes. It becomes oddly part of the norm. When you notice that there isn’t any coughing it just doesn’t feel right.

10. Leaving your bed

No one wants to leave the little heater that they call their bed. Once you wake up you quickly realize that you’ll instantly be cold again if you leave. Sleep is your escape from the never-ending cold.

11. Leaving the Shower

    • While you’re taking a hot shower it may seem as if you found paradise, but that first step out will knock you back down to earth. You’ll instantly start to shake as if you weren’t warm just two seconds ago.

      12. Cleaning your car of ice and snow

Having to venture out into the winter every morning to scrape off the inches of snow and ice that seemed to have come out of nowhere is always the last thing you want to do. If you were in a rush to bad because you are now officially late and cold.

      13. Shivering in the car while you’re waiting for the heat to kick in

Now that you have your car cleaned off you get the enjoyment of sitting in the freezing cold waiting for the car to heat up. Have you gotten the idea that you can literally never escape the cold?

      14. Shoveling

Just add something else onto the chore list of things you don’t want to do. But with this one you can add freezing temperatures and 2 feet of snow. Oh, the joys of winter.

      15. The people that don’t shovel

We all secretly despise the neighbors that choose not to shovel and force us out into the streets. It’s either risk getting hit by a car that slides on the ice or venture into knee deep snow and having snow covered pants.

      16. Layers on layers on layers

You can no longer just put on a shirt and leave. Now you have to put a shirt on, grab a sweatshirt, put on a jacket, and then put a coat on over that. Did I forget that you then have to put on gloves and a hat all so you don’t freeze?

      17. Chapped Lips

      • The epidemic of chapped lips is never worse than when winter arrives. You’ll end up losing every one you buy and realizing you don’t have it when you need it the most. Also, those freezing winds just make this issue that much worse.

        18. Cabin fever

Can I go outside yet without regretting my decision? Oh, wait we still have four more months of this. Goodbye sun, see you when you decide to actually to come out from behind the clouds.

        19. The Winter Fans

We all have those friends who say, “I love the winter”. The only way we know how to reply is by giving them a look of disgust.

        20. It’s the one season that NEVER fails to deliver

Winter will always bring with it what you expect. Unlike seasons such as spring and fall where anything is possible to happen; winter is always spot on when bringing the worst of the worst. Every day you’re guaranteed cold, wind, and longing for summer.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
