Everyone has dreams and aspirations and silly bucket list like goals they'd like to accomplish. I'm definitely one of those people, with a mile long list in my head detailing the adventures I'd like to have and the places I'd like to see. In just over 8 months I'll be 19 and while it's probably impossible to accomplish my mile long list in less than a year, here are some things I'd like to learn before I enter the last year of my teens.

1. Travel to another country.

I've never been a big traveler. I'm such a homebody, and I really wish that I wasn't. There is so much to see and do in the world, and I'd like to make it a goal of mine to actually go do and see. Life can be so great in a familiar area, but nobody ever regrets going on a new adventure (unless that adventure is like hella dangerous or something).

2. Be an intern.

Sounds weird, right? Remember when Rory Gilmore was an intern for Mitchum Huntzberger and he totally crushed her dreams of being a journalist? Well, before he stomped on her dreams and crumbled them into the ground, Rory had a blast interning for him and learning the ropes at his newspaper office. Being an intern at a news station or a newspaper or some other writing like place would be an experience of a lifetime.

3. Learn how to dance.

Confession: I have always wanted to be a dancer. I took ballet at 4 years old and then quit when I was placed in tap classes with a different teacher and didn't like it because change is awful. Now I stay up until all hours of the night to read "Dancing with the Stars" fan blogs because I have no life (just kidding, that is pure living right there). I want to learn how to really dance and have rhythm and be flexible (that's possible, right?).

4. Finish "One Tree Hill."

Not nearly as monumental as some other things on the list, but enduring nine seasons of Dan Scott and the craziness that is Tree Hill is a feat of its own. I'm on season 5 right now, Dan Scott is in jail, Brooke Davis is kicking butt, and Nathan and Haley are goals, let's do four more seasons of this madness!

5. Write another book.

Yes, it's true. 12 year old me has accomplished more than 18-year-old me. 12-year-old Emily wrote and published her own novel because she was ambitious and driven and not nearly as lazy as this me. I've started hundreds of stories since I ended by last one and can't find the energy or the time to finish any. I think this will be my year.

6. Be in a musical.

I adore musicals ("The Last Five Years" is my favorite) and I haven't acted in one in such a long time (my awkward theater geek days are long forgotten), but I'd love to do it again. I still sing at the top of my lungs every day in my car driving down Ford Road, so why not actually sing in front of an audience? "Maybe, because I'll suck." I say to myself. But maybe not.

7. Maintain a long distance relationship.

It's the tale as old as time. I'm going to school here in Michigan, my boyfriend is going to school in Chicago. It could be a movie. It probably is a movie. However, I'm not terribly fearful of the fate of us because I have a strong amount of faith in us. That sounds cheesy and gooey and gross as I type it, but I don't care. I love love. I want to contribute to love. Love is all you need.

8. Quit my job.

"Get a job" should probably be on here instead of "be an intern", but nevertheless one of my dreams before I turn 19 is to quit my job at Target. The pay is good, my coworkers are nice, and I get a discount. However, working in retail (especially during the holidays) is an absolute nightmare and I'm ready to be done with it. So long, Target.

9. Watch seasons 4 through 6 of "New Girl."

I skipped these seasons due to Nick and Jess being broken up. I told myself I wouldn't watch them until they got back together on the show as it airs. They are now back together. I can now resume watching.

10. Get a 4.0 my first semester in college.

Yay, school! Can I be a future Rory Gilmore? Can I pass all of my classes with flying colors? Find out next week on Emily: The College Years.

11. Try sushi.

I put this one on here for my boyfriend's amusement. I will not like sushi. He thinks that I will. I'll let y'all know who is right (it's gonna be me, you guys).

12. Go to the gym regularly.

All 102 lbs. of me is not going to be ripped like The Rock, but I would like to be a healthy, happier version of myself and I think going to the gym 3-4 times a week would help that. It's just the actual getting up and going there that's the problem.

13. Make a difference in the world.

I don't know exactly what I'm going to do yet, whether it be big or small, but I want to make a difference. I want to make a contribution to society. I want to start the path to becoming my own personal Leslie Knope.

14. Pull an all nighter.

This is a terrible idea, teenagers love terrible ideas, don't they?

15. Apply for a credit card.

After I quit my job and get a new one, of course. This is a very adult thing to do.

16. Consider getting a tattoo.

The idea of tattoos have always been kind of cool to me, but also willingly have someone stab you with a needle seems kind of dumb. We'll see.

17. Apply for "Survivor."

I don't know that I would ever make it surviving in the wilderness with a bunch of strangers, but it's always been so fascinating to me so I'd like to give it a try. The first step is putting yourself out there. Who wants to help me with my audition video?

18. Take a road trip with my best friends and/or boyfriend.

Let's go to New York! Or Chicago! Or Connecticut!

19. Be a better daughter, sister, and friend.

I want to work on being a better person in general. I think I'm doing an okay job, but I know that there's always room for improvement.

Let's start the list.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
