Whether it's studying, balancing your checkbook, or baking a cake for your aunt you don't really like, you have work to do. But what do you do? Procrastinate. If you're anything like me, that involves cleaning, snacking on everything you can find, working out, and napping. However, my favorite mode of putting off what I need to do is surfing Youtube for underground artists who have more talent than most famous people. (*cough* Ke$ha *cough*)

While I concede that Ke$ha made it big after a rough start in life, and she may have vocal talent and possibly a near-genius IQ, she puts out music that lacks depth, emotion, and feeling as a whole. I encourage you to broaden your musical horizons and dig deeper into the world of voices and instrumentation to find raw passion and talent.
Check out these amazing covers from various artists. Enjoy! (complete playlist)
1. Matthew Schurler, "Hallelujah"
Have you ever heard a more beautiful voice? (Hint: no.)
2. Astrid Smelpass and Julie Bergan, "White Christmas"
OK, I know what you're thinking: She sounds like she's 5 years old, which is true, but wow. That vocal control mixed with that falsetto and those breathy tones — how can you go wrong?
3. Sleeping at Last, "500 Miles (I'm Gonna Be)"
There is nothing quite like taking an old (and annoying) classic and turning it into a breathtaking and sweet melody. Thank you, Sleeping at Last. You guys are champs.
4. Tessanne Chin, "I Have Nothing"
What do you get when you cross an former reggae recording artist from Jamaica with a Whitney Houston hit and Coach Adam Levine? Yup, magic. Tessanne's incredible vocal range mixed with a strong foundation for each note (and rocking hair) produces a lady who can and should cover Whitney, and that is a rare thing.
5. Lily Elise and Julia Harriman, "Bang Bang"
Although maybe not the most intellectually deep song, this cover consists of crazy high notes that demand attention, and these two girls kill it.
6. Alice Kristiansen, "Young & Beautiful"
Alice's soft vibrato gives this song a lighter feel, although I must admit, most of her covers have little variation in their styles.
7. James Smith, "Feeling Good"
Just wow.
8. Celtic Woman, "Danny Boy"
These women have voices like angels. With clear tones and tight harmonies, it is worth a listen.
9. Kina Granis and Alex G, "Cool Kids"
The simple harmonies in this cover give it a light and airy feel while the singers still hold down the right pitches. Well done, ladies!
10. Bo Bruce, "Love the Way You Lie"
Do you know anyone else who can whisper-sing like that?! I doubt it.
11. Thirdstory, "Style"
Jazzy harmonies mixed with clear tones bring a whole new vibe to the song.
12. Kevin Olusola, "Stay With Me"
Um, what did we just watch? His beat-boxing and singing are on a new level, and then he adds an entirely epic element with the cello. Props to you, dude.
13. Jack Valier and Beckii Power, "Latch"
Love his falsetto, and that is all.
14. The Gregory Brothers, "Wrecking Ball"
Miley meets twang, and it works.
15. Syesha, "Love on Top"
Her vibrato in falsetto is crazy, and those key changes are unreal, not to mention her back-up vocalists with killer ranges.
16. Autumn Sharif, "1+1"
I love her passionate delivery of this big song. She executes it flawlessly.
17. Mumford & Sons, "The Boxer"
The raw sound of this song and the folksy feel Mumford & Sons always brings gives this classic a new level.
18. The Wind + The Wave, "Time After Time"
The harmonies and simplistic melody make this cover worth a listen.
19. Wanderhouse, "Lights"
And they say Ellie Golding's version was good. Pfft.
If you happen to be digging for more covers that trump the originals, I highly recommend SoMo, Connor Maynard, Lily Ahlberg, Jasmine Thompson, Madilyn Bailey, Leroy Sanchez, Sam Tsui, Boyce Avenue, Pentatonix, Lennon & Maisy, Alex & Sierra, Home Free, Simply Three, "The Voice" auditions in all countries, "The Sing Off" performances, BBC Radio 1, Capital FM, and Live Lounge for plenty of hidden gems.
But if auto tune is what you want, then carry on:
Ke$ha and 30H!3, "Blah Blah Blah"
Yep, that is good stuff.
