18 Things to Expect When You Go Home for Break

Holiday breaks are always an interesting limbo between being excited to come home and see family and friends and adjusting to being back under your parents' jurisdiction. You benefit from the free food, free time, and all of your home favorites, yet you don't see the reason why you need to tell your mom every single time you leave the house. Here are some things to expect when you go home for the holidays:

1. Carpooling back with random people from your hometown.

We've lived down the street from each other for 15 years and never spoken but sure, you can have a ride!

2. When your siblings bring significant others home and you don't.

3. That one boy/girl from home whom you swore you wouldn't see,

but meeting up for lunch wouldn't hurt, right?

4. Constantly being asked what you want to do with your life.

5. Hitting up all your favorite food places from home.

"I know I know, it's been awhile. I'll have my usual Jan, don't skimp on the bacon."

6. Remembering how much you love your dog more than anyone else.

It's always been you. Reunited and it feels so good.

7. Seeing the high school friends that you can instantly reconnect with.

8. Gaining the Holiday 15.

Honestly, at this point, what's another 15 pounds?

9. Your mom interrupting your naps to ask if you're going to do anything today.

10. Remembering how awful it is to share a bathroom with your brother.

The toothbrush holder is literally RIGHT THERE, 3 inches from where you put yours with the toothpaste still on it.

11. Trying not to act hungover in front of your grandma.

There's no shame worse than looking into your grandma's eyes after a long night out.

12. Avoiding that creepy relative that you're not even sure you're related to.

13. Hanging out with your parents and their friends... and actually enjoying it.

Somehow, at some point, I became an equal. Thank you for accepting me into the brotherhood.

14.Picking up 5 new Netflix shows.

"Are you still watching?" What are you trying to say, Netflix? Of course I am, I didn't make it this far to quit now.

15. Asking your mom to make all your favorite foods.

Already put in the request for lasagna, buffalo chicken dip, and chicken parmesan.

16. Planning to accomplish so much but actually doing nothing.

17. Relatives asking if you have a boyfriend... for the 4th time.

"Really? Nobody at all? Well, it is good to keep your options open."

18. All in all, fully embracing your title as a Back Home Baller

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.

We all have a love hate relationship with winter, lets be real here. The snow makes people forget how to drive, its cold, the roads are bad, and chances are, you will be spending a lot more money than you do during the other months of the year. If you’re from the Midwest, it seems to be that winter lasts for what feels like forever. But despite the struggles that winter brings, there are so many things to love about it.

The Post Thanksgiving Panic And Anxiety

It happens to all of us, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas the catch up with you.

Thanksgiving Break is most likely everyone’s favorite break during the fall semester. You get to go home and reminisce with all your high school friends. That diet you’ve been on for the past month goes out the window, and you get to eat until you put yourself into a food coma. There’s no rush on homework and you can just lie in bed and Netflix to your heart’s content. To me that sounds like an ideally wonderful break, and totally stress-free.
