If you're willing.

It's a new year! 2018 has arrived, which means it's the perfect time to try something that maybe you've never done before or try to do something again that you don't do often enough.

1. Making new friends

You can never have too many friends. People make life so much better.

2. Go to a new restaurant

Find a place you've never been before, or a place that's new in town!

3. Go somewhere you've never been before

It's adventure time! Make a day of it, or don't. The opportunities are endless.

4. Try a food you've always hated

Maybe your taste buds changed! It can even be a food that you've just never wanted to try before, just taste something new.

5. Paint something

I'm no artist but I still like to paint on occasion. It's fun and relaxing and it doesn't even have to be good!

6. Go on a road trip

Take your new friends and some old ones and embark on the trip of a lifetime. Hop in the car and see where you end up!

7. Write letters

And I don't mean just a postcard. Write meaningful letters to someone you love.

8. Take a social media hiatus

This one is simple. Delete the apps off of your phone for a while to remove the temptation to check your feeds. Enjoy life without worrying about what other people are doing, or feeling the need to show the world what you're doing play by play.

9. Get a new lipstick or lip balm

Why? Because I am constantly losing these and getting a new one is always a happy thing.

10. Try a new cuisine

This one may not be quite as easy. We all have our favorite types of food we like to eat. Try to branch out for a meal!

11. ... or just try a new dish in general

Maybe a whole new cuisine is moving way too fast for you. I understand.

12. Take a hike

Or just a walk around the block. The goal: get outside and get some fresh air!

13. Go tent camping

Pack up your car and head out to a state park for the weekend.

14. Go window shopping

The best way to do this is to not even bring your wallet, so you make sure that you won't buy anything!

15. Explore a new town

Maybe you've driven through it a thousand times, but never stopped in. See what it has to offer!

16. Learn more about your family history

Ask around, do some research. You never know what you might dig up!

17. Read a new book

I rarely ever take the time to read a whole book through anymore. Grab one and curl up with a blanket!

18. Cook or bake something

Get in the kitchen and get messy! You just might find your new favorite food in there.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
