Tinder, one of the world's largest dating apps, is just like any other online dating site. It can be kind of exciting, kind of scary and, at times, just downright weird. Basically you see pictures and self-written bios about people and swipe left on the people you don't like and swipe right on the people that seem desirable. If two people swipe right on each other them they're matched and have the ability to message one another. Tinder is a location-based app in that it only shows you people about 10 miles away (you can adjust the settings to make the location closer or farther away).
While the concept may seem odd to those who haven't tried it, the app has between 10,000 and 20,000 downloads a day. Traditionally, matches will chat for a while and then opt to meet up in person. Although, as with any online dating, there's always a slight sense of ambiguity when going to meet each other in person. What if they aren't who they appeared to be on the other end of your phone? While Tinder can be a fun way to meet people, first dates are always a bit nerve wracking. Here're 17 things usually running through the mind of a Tinderella when it comes to meeting up:
1. What if they look nothing like their pictures and I don't recognize them?
2. What if they're actually a serial killer? Or a creepy old man?
3. Why did I get here early? I should have been fashionably late
4. Okay, I think this is them coming in, I mean they're smiling at me so...
5. Wow, they actually look like their pictures!
6. I wonder if he actually has a good job and a cool life or if he's just saying that.
7. Oh god, please stop talking about your exes, I really don't care.
8. What if one day we get married and have to tell people we met on Tinder?
9. A little white lie never hurt anyone, we can just say we met at church.
10. I wonder if they would notice if I said I was going to the bathroom but just left.
11. What if they think I'm a weird serial killer? No, that's impossible.
12. I wonder how long they were planning on hanging out, I kind of have another date later today.
13. Hang on, did they really just start texting, mid conversation?
14. Why are you asking if I have a boyfriend/girlfriend? Do you really think I'd be on Tinder if I did?
15. Oh the age old question, what am I looking for on Tinder?
16. No, I don't really think I want to go back to your place right now.
17. I wonder if I could pretend I have a kid I need to pick up from daycare just to get out of this date.
