Jan. 1 marks the beginning of a new year, a fresh start. "New year, new me," right? Probably not. Each year we all make a resolution to better ourselves. We're often disappointed, as we seem to forget about them by Feb. 1. If you've ever made and kept a resolution, my hat's off to you; I am genuinely impressed. More likely you've made a resolution like the ones below and figured, like the rest of us, it's the thought that counts.
1. Go to the Gym
In the first few weeks of the new year, the gym is always packed with people dedicated to their newfound fitness regime. By February, the gym is mysteriously empty.
2. Eat Healthier
In theory this is a great resolution. But, writing 2016 on my papers does not change the fact that I'd rather eat pizza for dinner instead of a quinoa salad. Can't we have both and call it a day?
3. Do Better in School
By no means am I suggesting that you shouldn't do your best in school. But I see so many people beat themselves up after getting a grade lower than they wanted after working hard all semester. Instead, do your best, take a deep breath and realize its not the end of the world if you get a B, or (gasp) a C.
4. Get Over ~That Person~
Honestly, you like who you like. You can't control your feeling and you'll drive yourself crazy if you try to.
5. Reconnect with People
It's always great to reach out to people you were once close to. But these conversations usually end in a "it was great catching up with you" and you won't hear from them again until next New Year's or maybe your birthday.
6. Be Less Judgmental
This is a resolution that I think everyone should try to keep, it would make the world a much more tolerable place to live in. But lets not kid ourselves and admit to the fact that we're all going to give the occasional side eye.
7. Read More
Three words: New Netflix Releases
8. No Cussing
F*** that, am I right?
9. Visit Family More
We all love our family, but aren't we all excited to head back to school within the first week of break? This has nothing to do with our families (hi, Mom) and more to do with the fact we love our independence because somehow despite our age, we lose it as soon as we walk through our front door.
10. Get a Job
We're more likely to put all our efforts into calling our mom saying "I'm really looking for a job" than to actually look for a job.
11. Procrastinate Less
See explanation number 7.
12. Clean Out Your Closet
"I'll definitely wear that again." *hasn't worn it since 2010*
13. Stress Less
I took yoga to add some down time into my schedule last semester. It added more stress to my life the minute I was told to do a headstand. We're all going to stress about something, but lets just try not to sweat the small stuff.
14. Travel More
This becomes much easier when you have some more change in your pocket, which happens if you can make number 10 come true.
15. Spend Less Time Online
Well how else are we supposed to keep tabs on people we don't talk to anymore?
16. Come Up With a Resolution
Half the time I come up with my resolution mid-April, giving myself less time to avoid it all year!
