16 Things Youngest Children Should Be Warned About

"Even if it’s not verbalized, you’ll have a special bond with your parents that your older siblings might not have. It doesn’t mean you’re the favorite, but you’re forever their baby, and you're going to love it."

As the youngest child, I thought I'd make a list of a few things that youngest children should expect to happen as they grow up. Though sometimes being the youngest child feel might like you're an eternal fetus to your parents or a constant walking target for your older siblings, but I think all of my fellow "babies of the family" would agree with me when I say: I wouldn't have it any other way.

1. It doesn’t matter how old you get, your mom will always introduce you by saying “and this is my baby.”

2. You'll spend a good deal of your childhood traveling to significant events for your siblings.

Even though you’ll think your day will never come, it does.

3. Your last athletic events, performances, and even your graduation day will be the most emotional for your parents...

... because they know that after you, there’s no one left.

4. On every family road trip, you’re going to be sent to the third row of seats with the only justification being “you’re the youngest.”

5. Your parents will probably be extra strict and protective of you because they don’t want their “baby” to grow up.

6. Even though they’re strict, you’re going to get away with more than your siblings did at your age.

…And you’ll never admit that, but your siblings will point it out all the time.

7. You might start swearing a lot younger than you’re supposed to...

... because everyone, including your older siblings, will think it’s funny and cute.

9. When it comes time for you to get your license, both parents will probably refuse to take you driving...

... because they remember how horrible teaching your older siblings was.

10. On the first day of classes every year, your teachers will see your last name and ask if you have older siblings who went to that school.

11. Like it or not, hand-me-downs will make up at least 70% of your wardrobe until high school.

12. You’ll fight a lot with your older siblings...

... but when it’s just you left at home with your parents, you’ll wish they were back and that all of the focus wasn’t on you.

13. You might have to cover for your older siblings a lot...

... but they’ll do the same when you’re older.

14. Your older siblings will literally try to bribe you to do anything for them by saying “do it, I’ll time you.”

It might sound fun, but don’t fall for it.

15. Leaving home for college might be hardest for you...

... because you’ve been catered to the most out of your siblings for the past 18 years, and never actually thought you’d be on your own one day.

16. Even if it’s not verbalized, you’ll have a special bond with your parents that your older siblings might not have.

It doesn’t mean you’re the favorite, but you’re forever their baby, and you're going to love it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
