When Aubrey "Drake" Graham speaks, the world listens. On Drizzy's newest album "Views," clocking in at a somewhat exhausting 72 minutes, Aubrey had a lot to sing and say. Drake's lyrics are highly scrutinized and usually fall into the category of "hot" or "corny," and many times are somehow both at the same time. Hot or corny, here are 16 of the most memorable lines on "Views."
1."Why you gotta fight with me at Cheesecake, you know I love to go there"
"Views From The Cake"
Song: "Child's Play"
Aubrey loving The Cheesecake Factory is very Aubrey. Also, him bringing a date to Cheesecake is a perfectly acceptably reason for her to get upset. You're worth millions, Drake, take your girl somewhere a just little nicer.
2."I'm lookin' at they first week numbers like what are those"
Song: "Weston Road Flows"
Definitely corny Drake on this particular gem, but with the subtle diss that Drake has perfected.
3."Dropped out of school now we dumb rich"
Song: "Pop Style"
The double meaning of "dumb" in this line is what gives it a spot on the list, but also I would like to offer a word of caution here. Don't listen to Drake kids, stay in school. You don't have Aubrey's angelic voice or acting chops. Also Mr. Graham if you'd like to pay my college tuition since you're so rich that would be really great.
4."I turned the six upside down it's a nine now"
Song: "9"
Drizzy has the unique ability to make a line that is incredibly simple (one may say dumb), but deliver it with such confidence it sounds good. This is one of those times.
5."Don't you see Riri right next to me"
Drake and Rihanna in the "Work" music video
Song: "Hype"
Drake adds fuel to the long-standing "Drake and Rihanna are madly in love with each other" rumors fire.
6."On my DMX s***, I group DM my exes"
Song "U With Me?"
Drake gives the legend DMX a shout out, who happens to hate Drake. Aubrey, who considers himself a bit of a savage, says that he is able to slide into his exes DM's with ease.
7."And my wifey is a spice like I'm David Beckham"
Song: "Views"
Drake loves him a celebrity simile, and is not afraid to use them. This one is pretty terrible but surprisingly not the worst. That distinction belongs to the infamous...
8."Got so many chains, call me Chaining Tatum"
Champagnepapi's massive diamond chain
Song: "Pop Style"
Groan. But also, it's kind of hot? But it's also really not.
9."They gon' think I won a Grammy"
-Future
Future and Drake
Song: "Grammys
A gentle reminder that Future absolutely deserves a Grammy. Maybe he'll get one with the help of his tour mate.
Side note: If you didn't get a Summer Sixteen Tour ticket, I feel really bad for you.
10."Hittin like that 30 on my jersey man I'm gifted"
Steph Curry and Drake at the NBA All-Star Game
Song: "Still Here"
Drake, the alleged Toronto Raptors fan, gives a shout out to his friend Stephen Curry.
Side note: The Drake curse better not have ruined Steph and the Warriors for the playoffs. If it has, I'm ready to fight you, Aubrey.
11."Throne is back up in it"
- Kanye West
Song: "Pop Style"
Not technically a line on the album as Drake ludicrously decided to take his O.G.'s Kanye West and Jay-Z off the final version, a slight that has deeply hurt and enraged me. Personal beef with Drake aside, this line and the feature on "Pop Style" being listed as The Throne gives solid backing to the rumors that "Watch The Throne 2" may be a reality. Yes.
Side note: Again, leaving Jay and Kanye off the album is an absolute travesty, and supremely disrespectful. Shame on you Aubrey.
12. "If I was you I wouldn't like me either"
Song: "Views"
Drake, possibly the most self-aware rapper besides Kanye, acknowledges that there are hordes of haters out there He just doesn't care. He also reminds his competition that he is better than them.
13."I made a career of reminiscin"
Song: "U With Me?"
Drake knows his popularity is mostly due to his relatable and highly personal storytelling about his misadventures in love.
14."MVP, MVP, oh-nine all the way to sixteen"
Song: "Pop Style"
Aubrey declares himself as the MVP of rap from 09-16. There may be a few that disagree, but he's definitely in the running.
15."Views a classic already"
Song: "Hype"
"Views" was perhaps the most anticipated album of the year, and in the internet age of classic or trash, Aubrey knew the reactions would fly online. Instead of waiting for the masses to proclaim the album as classic or trash, he did it himself on the album. Pretty smart, and very self-aware, which could easily be said as the defining qualities of Drizzy.
16."I get a blank page when I try to draw a comparison"
Song: "Views"
Whether you hate him or love him, there's no one quite like Drake. His flow might imitate others, but it's his own. His style and personality may be based on those he sees around him, but he still is able to be truly one of a kind. He may not write his lyrics, but he delivers them in a way that thoroughly makes them his own.
Let me know which lines on "Views" you think are most memorable.
