I'm the younger sister of an older brother. Growing up, it was just us two and I always wished I had an older sister to turn to for boy advice, clothes, make-up tips, among all the other girly things. But, now that I'm older, I realized I got pretty much everything I needed from my older brother. Looking back, I'm so grateful I grew up with a strong male figure only a few years older than me, and I wouldn't change it for anything. Here are 16 reasons why having an older brother is the best.

1. He's (almost) always willing to take the blame for things.

2. You're friends with his friends, and they're all protective of you.


3. He taught you how to defend yourself.

4. He's your partner-in-crime.

5. He taught you everything you need to know about sports.

6. He has never tried to steal your clothes.

7. You gang up on your parents together to get what you want.

8. You probably have the same sense of humor.

9. You have enough dirt on him that he'll never rat you out to your parents.

10. He showed you (and continues to show) how men should treat women.

11. You'll never need to hire a mover (or basically anyone that requires fixing, mowing, or unclogging).

12. You get to give him girl advice.

13. His significant others are particularly nice to you to get on your good side.

14. He treats you very nicely on your 21st birthday.

15. You learn how to hold your own in an argument.

16. He'll always be your protector.


All in all, having an older brother has been a blessing. Sure, there have been some stupid arguments and physical fighting, but I wouldn't be the woman I am without him, and for that, I'm eternally grateful.
