Any gamer that uses steam, the gaming platform, obviously loses a ton of their money during the steam summer sale. On an everyday basis, gamers use many methods to evade buying a game. With the steam sale, however, many are tempted to buy games because of the lower cost. So here are some ways to keep yourself from spending too much money:
1. Don't spend it
An obvious way to not spend money during the steam sale is to not buy any games. While you might feel like a part of your soul is missing, you will live.
2. Write down what games you want beforehand
Many buyers will go into the steam sale having no idea what to buy and spend way more money than they thought they would. It's just like going to the store you make a list and go get the items, or else you might end up buying the entire store by accident.
3. Evaluate price-drop
During the sale most games will have some percentage off of the original price. Companies use this to trick people into buying games that are still way too expensive. If you step back and look at the price you are still paying for the game you might rethink buying it.
4. Spend only a certain amount
Before the sale, if you are planning on buying games, then save up money. Simply save a little bit each month or week, so that you aren't killing your bank account immediately but instead are only spend what you are comfortable spending.
5.Contemplate if you really need it
Normally if you think about if the game is really important to you and if you really need it you will realize that it isn't a need but only a want. If you really need it though go for it.
6. Go outside
While Gamer's normally are inside more frequently, going outside can be a calming experience and can be just what you need to realize that some games are just not important.
7. Eat
Food is what drives us all, and while you are eating you might just not want a game anymore. Be careful though, eating while stressed can lead to serious mental and physical problems.
8. Get a new hobby
Wile gaming can mean many things to many different people for most it is a hobby and can be an expensive hobby. It might be better if you aim for a less expensive hobby if gaming isn't for you.
9. Binge-watch Netflix
Watching a good show can sometimes make you realize what more important than games. Like the next episode of a series.
10. See if your computer can handle it
A simple mistake is not looking at the system qualifications for a game and not being able to play it. Most only make this mistake once, but if your rig actually can't run the game, that is a good indicator that you don't actually need the game.
11. Wait to see if you actually need it
Most people buy games instinctively or without thought. Waiting a day and seeing if you keep thinking about it throughout the day is a good way to see if the game is really that important to you or if you were just going to waste money.
12. Check if it actually is a good game
Some games look good even when they aren't. Buying them would be a waste so looking at the ratings would help not waste money.
13. Play some of your old games
Sometimes all an old game needs is a replay. You may come to realize that a game you grew tired of can still fill hours with enjoyment.
14. Evaluate your schedule
After getting a game sometimes life hits you like a ton of bricks and you realize that you don't have time to play your new game anymore. Its always a good idea to look if you actually have time to play or if you will just waste more money.
15. Weigh time spent playing versus money spent on the game
Most games have an estimate of how much time the average person will play the game. If you weigh out the time vs. money spent, then you might be able to tell if the game is worth it. Obviously, the numbers won't mean much if you aren't familiar with them, but if any of the numbers seem outrageous than don't buy it.
