With many of us going back to the daily grind of classes this week, I’m sure plenty of people (myself included) are either devastated to have to leave their best friend for school, or excited to go back to campus and see the one they’ve been missing all summer. You know this person means so much to you; They know everything about you, like the same things as you, and are always down to hangout. Face it; Maybe your best friend is more than your best friend --- they are your soulmate. Our soulmates don’t always come to us as a romantic partner. Maybe our truest love in life is actually the love we share with our closest friends. Here are 15 things to prove to you that your BFF truly is your other half.
1. People don’t understand how close you are.
No, but really. You can actually communicate with them through simply a look. Even though you may try to tone it down when you’re with others, it’s no secret that you two are on a totally different wavelength than everyone else around you. From inside jokes to facial expressions only you two understand, there’s no disguising the special bond you have. You can tell how each other are feeling, finish each other’s sentences, and sometimes, you even forget you’re with other people entirely because you two are just off in your own world (which can result in some accidental embarrassing behavior, until you realize you guys aren’t just home having a sleepover).
2. When you don’t see her for a longer time than usual you feel lost…
Lets be honest, you and your best friend spend every moment of free time together. That’s why when you don’t see her for a day or two, it feels more like a century. This can be a problem when you guys go to different schools, or you’re both busy, but you know your best friend will always make time for you when she can.
3. ...But even when it’s been weeks/months, nothing changes about your friendship.
You know that no matter how hard it is to be away from you PIC, the next time you guys hangout, it’s as if no time has passed at all. You’re right back to kicking it with some pizza rolls and Netflix under a pile of blankets like you’ve been doing since high school. Plus, it’s not like you aren’t constantly talking through text or social media anyway.
4. You get happier for them when something good happens than they do their self (and vice versa).
You had a delicious salad for lunch? Yassss queen! You got a $5 tip today? F*ck yeah! He asked you out for dinner on Saturday? GO BEST FRIEND THAT’S MY BEST FRIEND.
5. You have at least 3 different conversations going on with them at once.
Between all these social networking apps we have, how are you supposed to limit yourself to just one topic at a time with your BFF when you can talk about five? You’ll be texting about how you just burnt your mac and cheese, tweeting at each other about something on your Timehop from 4 years ago, and Facebook messaging funny memes back and forth. Oh, and let’s not forget those heinous Snapchats that are meant for each other’s eyes only.
6. Your Snapchat game is on another level.
Speaking of Snapchat, not only do you send each other about 54,385 a day, that number is probably the score you have with each other as well. Not to mention that you easily send each other the funniest (but sometimes scariest) snaps ever.
7. People have asked you if you guys were dating before.
You sleep in the same bed all the time. You cuddle up on the couch to watch Law and Order: SVU. You don’t leave their side when you go out together. You kiss each other on the cheek and hold hands. Basically, you guys have epitomized #RelationshipGoals in friendship form, so who can blame people when they think you might be a couple?
8. You can talk to them about anything.
Okay, this one is a given, but just take a second to think about the most ridiculous, embarrassing, or personal thing you’ve told your best friend lately. Would you tell anyone else on this planet? No? That’s why they’re your soulmate. You are connected on a deeper level, and there is a special sort of trust you have only between you two.
9. You know each other’s stories so well you can tell them better than they can.
You know the story about how when you were six, your uncle's giant German Shepherd tackled you into a pool at a barbecue for the hot dog in your tiny hand, resulting in a triple phobia of pools, dogs, and any link-formed meat? Well, your BFF has heard this story (and all of your other ones) ad nauseum, and can now recite them even better than you can. Plus, they’re way funnier at imitating how you probably looked falling into the water.
10. You talk about each other way too much.
You and your best friend obviously think each other are the bees knees; Even when you aren’t with each other, you can’t help yourself from saying things like “My best friend did X last week and I was so proud of them!” or “My best friend just cut their hair and they look gorgeous!” You just love each other to death, and want everyone else to know that and to love them just as much.
11. People have told you that you guys act like sisters.
You wear each other’s clothes and do each other’s hair. You’ve seen each other naked more times than you can count, and you know you can go to their house without warning and take a nap even when they aren’t home. You bicker over something for five minutes, then go right back into loving each other (plus you always have something to tell them, so it’s impossible to stay mad for long). Maybe you aren’t siblings in this life, but in a past life, you definitely were identical twins.
12. You don’t keep track of the favors you do for each other.
I buy you iced coffee and a donut today, you’ll buy my Chipotle (WITH guac) tomorrow. That’s how it works. You two buy things for each other all the time, so why even keep track? What’s mine is yours, and I know when the time comes where I am in need, you’ll have my back. Your friendship is completely unaffected by money spent on someone so priceless.
13. Their relationships are also your relationships.
Every time your BFF sparks a new flame with someone, you are the first to hear about every single detail. On top of this, you have no problem third wheeling, since your best friend’s boo thang is more of an extension of them than an entirely different person to you. In fact, you almost always become great friends with whomever they’re dating, and if you don’t, they at least have already come to terms with the fact that you are the OG bae and there is no getting rid of you. If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my BEST friend.
14. You honestly think they are the greatest person ever.
I mean, why else would you guys be so close? In your eyes, your best friend is the most amazing, beautiful, kind, hilarious, perfect person on the planet Earth. You are always there to pick you up when you are down, and all you want is to do the exact same for them whenever you get the chance.
15. You can be yourself with them.
At the end of the day, your best friend loves you for who you are. They know everything about you, and still choose to be in your life, so you know that you can always be 100% comfortable around them - something everyone needs in their life.
